Alright boys, its the decent thing to do and they are after all brothers. So on behalf of Indian Cricket Fans i would like to congratulate Pakistan on completing 60 years of Independence from British Colonial Rule. I would like to take a minute to point out the vital role Pakistan plays in global politics and why, inspite of all our vituperations, we need Pakistan: 1. Pakistan has the potential to be a beacon of Democracy for the Islamic world. It has been, by far the most successful democracy in the Islamic world, outside of Turkey. 2. Pakiistan might be considered a breeding ground for extremism, but it is also a buffer between the fundamentalist and the rest of the world. While it wrangles with them, the nation is using better education and employment as its tools. 3. Pakistan has the potential to ofset the Chinese domination of the manufacturing market. It has a large young populace which is eager to learn, eager to earn and shares the same work ethic as us Indians. 4. It is a nation of rich cultural and historical heritage. It was after all the site of the oldest archaelogically documented agrarian civilization that utilized modern facilities such as plumbing, roadways and a system of representation based taxation. The country has some quirks, but then again so does the rest of the world. It might be 60 years old, but it has just entered a new phase where education and democracy reign above all else. It will stumble, as we did and we do still, but like brothers in adversities, we, Indians need to support them and not be ashamed to seek their assistance when in need. Have a ball guys, and keep it clean.

Happy Independence Day to Pakistan. Whichever way Pakistan goes in the next few years shall very well define the way the Muslim states of the world shall go. If there is one Islamic state on which most is riding right now, it is Pakistan. I would like to see a moderate, if not secular, Pakistan emerge, a country that has good, if not excellent, relation with India. And of course a country which we beat routinely in World Cup cricket! xxx

Good post and thank you THX! I think you will see a major change in the next 1 or 2 years.
its inevitable MP, toss in a scientific education and a more empowered media, and democracy and economic prospertiy is almost always the outcome. to borrow a cliche: "stay the course". hiccups like Lal masjid will happen, heck even united states had its Waco Texas standoff, and even the Germans are now having to deal with the rising power of the national socialists in Brandenburg. do not substitute one despot for another by removing Musharaff. He has the right plan, just not the popularity. Marchievelli says in The Prince that if a dictator is removed by another dictator, tyranny will just increase. If musharaff must be replaced, it ought to be through elections. And even if that brings in the fundamentalists into power, so be it... at the end of the day, everyone wants jobs over religion.
