:haha::haha: Why the eff should I live to prove myself to some westerner? I consider him the god of batting.
you have a point there, but i am not asking any one to prove themselves to anybody. Just that calling sachin god can be typecasted on Indians, attributing to them their allegedly primitive belief systems.

The acceptance and inclusion of abrahamic faiths and even other philosophies into Indian culture means that by definition India has a very pluralistic society and culture. But paganism is at the heart of it. In fact I'd argue that it is our pagan fundamentals that are responsible for our inclusiveness. Can you please elaborate on the "weaknesses" of pagan culture please. Accepting of legends, etc is part of every culture. Even the so called scientists have their own "legends" and non-evidence based rigid paradigms. This is why I got the feeling that you do not understand the true meaning of paganism. "Witch hunting" was actually done by the church against pagans. Honor killing has got nothing to do with paganism. They are caste and tribal cultural stupidities. In fact paganism is in opposition to such stuff. So who according to you can be called a "god"? You do realize that calling someone a "god" is simply because that person has done something that not many humans have been able to. Gods are just heroes. I'd rather call exceptional humans gods than believe in some white bearded idiot sitting on a golden throne in the skies ready to judge our every action. Fair enough. But II think whatever few messages we have exchanged should have helped you realize that you do not know what paganism is. Leaving alone paganism, what is wrong in considering someone a "god". When people call Sachin a god it doesn't mean they think he is a supernatural entity that created the universe and is the supreme personality of godhead. What most people mean by referring to Sachin as "god" is that he is an extraordinary, never-seen-before, pinnacle of batsmanship. If I wanted to call someone a god I'd rather he lived in my lifetime and that I was able to witness his exploits. To me Sachin in the Buddha of Batting - the supreme expression of batting that no one has matched. And I can tell you that having such an opinion does not make me any less intelligent or less rational than you. In fact I'd wager that I am more knowledgeable and more wise than many others in many walks of life. And that I can hold my own before the non-god-calling peoples
dah, what should i do now go on as to why you dont mean "God" as super natural entity who in his many manifestations created and to this day guides the universe, or the dictionary definition of "supreme being who is the creator and ruler of universe", but you meant it as a human super hero. Should i ask you then, " why dont you call sachin just that ? a hero and not god, that way every one will get what you really mean. now let me guess what your come back would be, " oh dont bring semantics into it ? " ok if you want to post in English then people will take your meaning as per English. In English God means God not super hero. And You should stop trying to be patronizing its funny when one reads it along with your other statements, you then appear to speak about many things that you do not understand fully. I am reluctant to chat about philosophy elaborately in ICF because its a cricket forum, every one here deserves to chat about cricket without two folks ranting about belief systems in the world. You mistake my love for liberty as lack of knowledge my friend. I will voice my opinions as i please. I no i dont think you understand what i am saying, nor do i find your statements inducing a change of opinion in me. I do think people who call Sachin god are linguistically if not otherwise intellectually ,challenged.

So who according to you can be called a "god"? i like this question. it has the answer to our predicament. Finding the answer is not simple, but very private. For instance, You really ment it when you called Sachin god. You have found your God in Sachin. I dont consider him god, i consider him a human, a cricketer, a batsman, albeit arguably in many peoples opinion a lesser one than a few others before him. I wont let you know when i find my mine.

Agree. And even in west many celebrities are called "god".
:cantstop: you are agreeing to him saying he does not want to justify himself to westerners, and then go about giving a justification that westerners also call their celebrities "god".

Evidence is in the search button' date=' may be even in some of your own posts. :winky:[/quote']Yoda, out of respect for a fellow poster I am requesting you please don't play smart-ass with me. If you have the evidence then share it. As for me calling Sachin a "Buddha", it does not mean he is the creator of the universe. In fact you equating Buddha with "creator of the universe" indicates your understanding of the word is wrong or for that matter the philosophy of Buddhism. A Buddha is someone who has attained the pinnacle of a certain aspect. It does not mean he is a god. In fact in my belief systems there is no place for a god...at least a god that is separate from you and I or the universe. So there does not arise a situation where someone including Jesus, Krishna, Gautama, Dalai Lama, Vivekananda, Sachin, Michael Jordan, will be considered a "god" by me.

Like you said, this requires a more detailed conversation to understand what each one means. And you make a very very good point when you say "Finding the answer is not simple, but very private." I do not believe in god as an entity that created the universe and is watching over it and is separate from us. Let's leave it there for now I can tell you one thing though that even of people who call sachin god are linguistically deficient, they might not be any less intelligent, any less wise, or any less of a human being than you and I

And a separate point, that its a matter of fact that there are many celebs who are called god in the West.

linguistically deficient in one alien language not equal to dumb. i definitely agree, and i dont recall calling them dumb either. I agree that if we find time and a forum we might discuss further.
