CG Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 if I may ask a stupid question as a non-techie; why do ppl split the hard drive? whats the advantage?? It has some advantages like splitting allows you to dedicate certain partitions for movies, games.its easier to search also if some thing goes wrong with the os and you have to reinstall everything and format the partition it will save your data and effort.
Clarke Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Start>Run>Cmd format c: Y That should help all of us.
Prakat Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 go to c: on dos prompt and enter this dir /s /b > src.txt now upload the file src.txt in your c: root here.
Needforspeed Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 SJ, Why dont you simply buy a external harddisk of 500GB or 1TB and transfer all your data to that? I suggest WD.
Crookbond Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 if I may ask a stupid question as a non-techie; why do ppl split the hard drive? whats the advantage?? Windows being windows - if there's a virus infection your system may have to be reformatted and you can lose your data. So you create a separate split(partition) to store your data and create one partition for your operating system (in this case Windows). So tomorrow, if your OS has issues you can safely reformat the Windows partition without worrying too about data loss.
