mhr123 Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 You're right it is an insult to lump Kolkata with Chennai. Kolkata is a cosmopolitan city.. Its a mixture of every color of India. In Kolkata' date=' you will get the whole essence of India. Kolkata is very giving to everyone. The reason Kolkata is called the City of Joy, because it loves everyone. All non-Bengalis are being be loved more than any one. Thousands of non-Bengalis, even Tamils are living splendidly in Kolkata, and are doing very good. Kolkata is lingually much more liberal than Chennai. And let's not even talk about food...Kolkata offer cuisines from all across India unlike Chennai. The heritage, culture, academia, art & vibrant history of Kolkata alone puts it above ANY other metros in India! Despite its failures, Kolkata is the most welcoming city in India and hence people from all over India lives there. So in summary no one gives a sh1t to what you think. It's actually an insult to other Chennaites that you're one of them, unfortunately.[/quote'] Kolkata is a poor mans mumbai ... city gives it to everyone... hard to find someone without a job.. Some of my friends who were there used to give flour to a guy sitting outside to make chapaties ... i mean u can get anything and everything here.. bring vegetables give it to guy sitting with a small gas stove , he would prepare the curry for u ... so i mean there is a job for everyone here , if some1 wants to work. The only issue is the Salaries are very less compared to other metros .. until and unless someone is working in a multinationals or a S/W companies as they have a standard package.

Ram Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 All you say maybe true historically, but if you really think thats how it is now, you are fooling yourself. Kolkata has failed big time over last 10-20 years to keep up with rest of the country. Of like 500 people of my age group I know in India, there is grand total of ZERO people living/working in Kolkata...why ? Because there is no job worth doing in that region...Delhi has Gurgaon/Noida , Mumbai has its financial sector, heck even Chennai has a strong Tech economy (IT/ state of the art automotive ), Bangalore/Hyderbad obviously have IT, even Pune has more things going for it. Kolkata is no where in the picture sadly. It is an archaic place, which was glorious one time, but the fool hardy public support for communist crap has made sure it stays few decades behind rest of India. Even Chennai? Watch your words, homie. You'd be surprised to know the sheer number of areas where Madras is leading the way. No talking down on us.. :bandit:

There is absolutely no secret there. Communists with their narrow mind have broken the industry and Congress with its vote back politics has closed their eyes to the fast changing demographics of the state. Not to forget the nations biggest threat in the form of Naxalites began due to misgovernance. Almost every state in the country except New Delhi and Mumbai are welcoming. Every major metro has cuisines from all over the Country and World. Kolkata should have been the Germany of India..but it is not :((

StriKe Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 can be found in srm college and near EA :secret: Yup ;) Luckily i am studying in SRM and living near Express Avenue To all chennai haters :finger:
Needforspeed Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Lots of leg pulling going on here. Actually Chennai is a good place if you can stand the humidity, autowallahs and railway porters. (Of course for most people railway porters are not so relevant.)
J P K Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Yup ;) Luckily i am studying in SRM and live near Express Avenue To all chennai haters :finger: i am studing in srm too :two_thumbs_up: i think ganeshran is old srm student :hmmm:
Mariyam Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Even Chennai? Watch your words, homie. You'd be surprised to know the sheer number of areas where Madras is leading the way. No talking down on us.. :bandit: And pray, which are those areas?? Care to cite a few :nervous:
Crookbond Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 MHR - Dude, by now you should realize everyone has his/her own experiences. I will back Vilander's 10-point memorandum and take it as a fairly reasonable estimate of Chennai.
Ram Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 And pray, which are those areas?? Care to cite a few :nervous: Well, we don't normally like to blow our own trumpet, but if insist I'd say that we are well truly the leaders in the 'Beating the behinds of northie teams in ipl' field. :proud: :winky: P.s; kidding aside, everyone knows about Madras' role in it, but it has some of the worlds biggest automative facilities. TN dominates India's textile/garment business, most of India's fiber optic connectivity runs through the Madras coast line, so does a big proportion of our imports/exports. I have big hopes pinned on jayalalitha. If the voters of TN buckle the trend once and give her 2 successive terms, I am confident the state will be in a good place
Mariyam Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Well' date=' we don't normally like to blow our own trumpet, but if insist I'd say that we are well truly the leaders in the 'Beating the behinds of northie teams in ipl' field. :proud: :winky:[/quote'] Exactly. Case in point your IPL 5 final against northie KKR. And by the by, MI have beaten you guys at Chepauk the last 2 times we played you there. :hatsoff: Good stuff. TN/Chennai is a good place, Jayalalitha not withstanding. That's not even in contention. But how does having the world best textile mill/ lathe/idli/assembly line for Tata Indica make any difference to a tourist/ a person on a STA. All these are not tourist attractions. What are the to do things in and around Chennai for an outsider?
Mariyam Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Eyyy chokri!!! Aisa mat bolne ka :weights: but seriously, whats with all the narthie stereotypes abt chennai. Yes, its ****ing hot & humid and its not like you lot come from siberia. In chennai, you dont have to worry abt the mumbai slums (jeez, even the airport is in the middle of one) or the testosterone laden tharkis in Delhi who'll not even leave your grandmoms in peace. Come on Anonymous. We've had this chat before too. You're the one stereotyping me here by calling me a typical northie who has those set in stone stereotypes about Chennai. The fact of the matter is, I'm not typical at all. I'm an extremely talented, witty, and a very modest individual. And I'm not even a northie. Do you see me abusing left, right and centre just because I forgot my kerchief in the car or because it rained and I don't have an umbrella? My detailed travel tips to MHR123 were based on my experiences in Chennai? Why are you discounting my experiences? I didn't say that it is a bad place. In fact of all the metros that I've been to, the Chennaiites have been the most well spoken and helpful people. Its just that for a person from Mumbai, Chennai has nothing new to offer. Neither is there any great historical/architectural site (apart from Mahabalipuram, put thats many kms away from Chennai), nor is your party/dance workshop/activity scene all that hep. But I've heard that Chennai finally has caught up with the rest of India and has access to the internet via dial ups. MHR123 may not get that bored after all.
