Disclaimer: This is a Music Thread I am a been a big fan of trance, have a huge collection as well. I couldn't find much on Google but what is the BIG CONNECTION between Trance and Hindu Gods. We have references to Mahadeva, Shiv, Om and lyrics and somehow everything leads to GOA ( understandably ) for the large European community. Does the music have any connection with attaining nirvana. I remember going to this place in Goa ( 1994, when it wasn't as Touristy ) where it was full moon and this 1 beat playing with some guys chanting OM

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Back to trance, I doubt there is any religious connection. It is really more of a hippie cr@p me thinks. Beats are good, music is fast paced, and addition of chants just adds to the enigma. Like the music group Enigma :dance:

:woot: I am a trancer and deeply in love with this music. To understand the connection of Trance and Hindu Gods, one must first look at the history and origin of this genre of music. Goa, once a Portuguese colony, has always been liberal and a place advocating multicultural values. Christianity amalgamated with Hindu traditions gave this place a unique standing in India. Combine this with laid back lifestyle and beautiful beaches and you have a tourist hot spot. The hippies of the 1960's discovered this place, where they could unwind and escape from the materialistic lifestyle of the west. The Counter Revolution was in full swing. People from around the world started flocking Goa in search of a paradise. At this time, psychedelic rock music was taking hold of the imagination of people. During the 1960's, 70's and early 80's one could hear this type of music at parties in Goa. The late 80's saw the advent of the acid house and techno music scenes in the west and there were full on parties celebrating this movement. The hippies used to travel to Goa and import this music from Europe, Israel, Australia and elsewhere. When this new wave music (electronic music with 4x4 heavy beats) came to India, it got heavily influenced by the spirituality of Hinduism found in India. This electronic music of the west was mashed with rhythms and spirituality of the east, and got exported back to Europe and other countries in the form of music which is termed as "Goa Trance". Thus, it is important to note that musicians of the west were influenced by spirituality of India and they tried to express this new found liberating philosophy through music. This early trance which we now refer to as Classic Trance evolved in two separate movements: 1. Trance in Goa called "Goa Trance" which evolved into psytrance and other sub genres. 2. Trance in Europe called "Euro Trance" which is today's club or mainstream trance, again with many sub genres. Goa Trance is essentially psychedelic music. Hippies like DJ Goa Gil (originally from California), one of the original proponents of this music in Goa, embraced spirituality and connected this music to the Hindu Gods. In the west, the drug of choice for Eurotrance was Acid and Ecstacy. However, in India, Goa Trance got associated with Ganja/Hashish because this is what the holy men/sadhus of India used to smoke to celebrate their spiritual connection with Lord Shiva and to worship the deity. The music was seen as an escape from the real world. Hippies and party goers wanted to cast aside their worries of the west. As a result of all this, the early trance movement of Goa was imbibed with symbolism of Hinduisim and Hashish/Ganja references. Thanks to Lord Shiva - Nataraja - the God of Dance and his devotees. Goa is not a place, Goa is a state of Mind. I would encourage you to watch the documentary "Last Hippie Standing" to get an idea of the movement and the connection with spirituality. It is so deeply enriching that I have at times become lost and tranceported to another world. A lot of this music has been written by musicians under the influence of hallucinogens. So, it would be highly incorrect to say that trance and drugs don't go together. The group Entheogenic produced their debut album after they undertook the journey of Ayahuasca and DMT. The resulting music is so multi layered that the intricacies just blows the mind. Anyway coming back to Hindu Gods, the following tune is a great example of Goa Trance with Sanskrit verses: Thi2FXdFkfM

Really impressed by the respect given to sanskrit, love the way they have blended mystic, mythology, tune and hallucination All u need is shot of heroine, trance, sandy beach, dark full moon and u can write ur own ticket to mars ( no rover needed )
