Drugs are advanced always ahead of WADA but some athlete's get caught. East German swimmers did get caught in the Olympics they beat America.

Blacks only dominate short sprints (100, 200, 400, 4*100). Anything upwards of 800 m is a fair game for everyone. Middle Distance running (1500 - 5000m) has been historically a European trademark, specially Brits. Longer distance has been more of Kenyan/Ethiopian/Morrocan etc. Jumps (high, long, triple) have been all over the place. Same with throw (discuss, javelin, hammer, shot put etc). Then you have Marathon and walks that is again open to most countries. Point being I can think of atleast 20 countries who tend to have some sort of impact on one single event - track and field, and India is not one of them. Let us quit making excuses as if we simply ran out of sports. How many athletic events India won in Asian games? Total of 4. Anyway not talking about 3 or 4 golds. Im talking 35+. East Germany was clearly doping, they even got caught. Soon after a united Germany struggled for 10. Chinese had decent genetics, to get 50 golds you need ridiculous amounts of money spent as well which they did. Im positive they are also doping like East Germany was proven to be. Especially swimmers like Ye swimming the last 50 faster than the winner of mens race. Natty? Yeah right.
nballa Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 yes my idea of a relaxing entertaining evening is watching mary kom punch the shyt of another flyweight for about 20 minutes. then wait in line for a ticket to see some guy with a gun shoot at concentric circles - not at a real person mind you. then head over to the nearest swimming pool to see the local aquatics championships. i mean what is really exciting about watching raina and kohli raining sixes into raucous crowds right? so boring. get real nirmal, its the same in other countries as well, nobody care about the sportspersons in usa other than mlb, nfl and nba which were responsible for a grand total of one medal in the olympics. indian sportspersons su,ck because their have poor nutrition and a godawful training regimen and are just disinterested in their sports in general. fyi yohan blake's favourite sport is cricket which is a passion in their country and he wants to play the ipl AND he is the second fastest runner on the planet.

And when I try to show how you are oversimplifying(in T&F) and essentially making an excuse you suggest our poor performance. Bhai saab I am the first person who says we are performing poorly, extremly poorly. But where me and you differ, perhaps, is that I am looking for how to improve and you are using that as the reason why we should stop doing so. It is a chicken-and-egg thing. How are you ever gonna get more results, even in Asian Games, if you put Rahul Sharma, or whatever his name is, ahead of Mary Kom?

You have to start this as a process. Were others always better? Or did we give up? Gurbachan Singh Randhawa, for example, made to 110 m finals at Tokyo Olympics, came in 5th. When did we make Asian Games, let alone Olympics 110 m hurdles finals. And thats just one example that came to mind off the bat. By the by GS Randhawa was a decathelete who excelled in hurdles. PK would love that trivia :winky:

Viewership was an east target for most Indian fans, who as always choose to live in denial. :winky: It's not the viewers fault. Why can't the media publish more stories about Mary Kom and Sushil Kumar instead of trivial IPL news? Cricket/IPL popularity is not to be blamed for our performance in Olympics. This olympics is a turning point of sorts for India. So much following (even among folks I know) has never been heard about. Even the media too. Instead of lamenting about IPL/Cricket, we should focus on how this Olympic effort is carried forward. Target of 20 medals in 2020 is a good start.

Everybody has access to Internet and yet bulk of Indians (educated, well-read Indians) dont know their GS Randhawa from Milkha Singh. Same with Mary Kom. I appreciate folks who simply do not care and admit so, but those that claim they do but feign ignorance because media did not cover them? Not so much. Sushil Kumar is a good example. Sushil kumar has been celebrated more often. He came on last season's KBC in the celebrity round. His marriage was big news. He was one of athletes who has celebrity status. Vijender too, after Beijing he had a great following. I think in India they have to win something before they are known (I guess so in all countries too!) You can say that about YDutt or Vijay Kumar. before they won the medals. My mom was very much disappointed to see Sushil Kumar miss the gold, she hardly watches cricket. I think media coverage on this Olympics has been good in India from that fact :hysterical:

How many swimming/basketball/sprinting coaches and facilities do you see? India does not have a sporting culture. End of story. My son plays soccer, baseball, track and basketball. He can play pickup games anytime he wants. He knows how to swim since the age of 3 because there are pools all over the place. Where in India are there access to facilities at a grassroot level? No where. How can anybody expect anyone to learn, let along, excell, in any sport without any cultural emphasis? Heck, there are more cricket grounds in a 30 mile radius from me than the entirety of South India. And i live in the US. :hysterical:
