Gambhir has been failing in Test matches for a long, long time now - last hundred came way back in January 2010, that too against Bangladesh. In that time he's only had one decent series - in SA. And that was an important contribution, no doubt, but doesn't balance out the continuing failures. As for Sehwag, don't think he even cares any more.

With the retirement of Dravid and Laxman the responsibilities lies heavily on Gambhir, Sehwag and Sachin but it's been more than an year and half since anyone these three made a test hundred. They should somehow hang in the middle for a longer period of time.

Sehwag has always been a hit or miss. Not sure if it's worth having him as an opener especially overseas where its important to play out the new ball than to score 30 off 20 balls. He is especially vulnerable when the ball swings around. Gambhir has been in poor form in tests as far as I can remember. It's surprising to me that he has been billed as a choice for captain when his performances with the bat have been abysmal. He had done virtually nothing in tests in England and Australia. In fact, Dhoni was way better than him.

Sehwag was not hit and miss like this before 2007-08. He used to wait for few overs and was certainly more selective in his shots. His test SR was 75 till 2007. After 2007 it has been around 90. Similarly his ODI SR was around 96-97 during most part of his ODI career (till 2008) and over 120 after 2007. He has started taking more chances than he used to take earlier. Probably that's why he has been consistently failing outside subcontinent. During first half of his career he was able to perform almost everywhere, but has been walking wicket since then.

With all due respect to the contribution of seniors, when can we stop having players in the team who are "still enjoying the game" and rather have players who have the desire and hunger to stand up be counted. Regardless of what happens this meaningless series on the flatbed tailor made pitches - we have to introspect and look at the future.

Wish Rahane and GG had opened, this is an ideal series to try that .. Sehwag has to bat at 5 going forward he does not have the hand eye coordination to open anymore, particularly overseas

Disappointed in Gambhir & Sehwag this match. Gambhir needs a big knock this series and Sehwag has forgotten how to play a long innings in Tests. These days Sehwag gets out in 40s or just after crossing 50s when previously when he got set (crossed 40 or 50) he would get a big 100 more often than not. He gotta get his shyte together coz now he's beginning to bat like a T20 slogger in Tests.

Whenever they do I would have Sehwag in there. I am sure sight of even a 45 year old fat, bald and halwai looking Sehwag would be enough for Pak bowlers :giggle: Plus he still has odis & T20s to torment Pakis in :--D

Why should he? He has a great Test record, an amazing odi record and in T20 we expect him to make a difference in T20 Cup later this year. There's a world of diffrence in someone asking a player to be dropped from a particular format and asking for his retirement across all formats.

The problem with Sehwag I feel is that he's achieved much more than what he had expected of himself. There is nothing much for him to achieve, hence a lack of application in his batting. He probably doesn't know it himself though. He needs to set new goals for himself if he plans to continue, otherwise he won't last with this reckless attitude.
