It was great to see our u19 players and the newcomers are playing short pitch deliveries very well. Chand, Virat Rahane, Mandeep They hook and pull very well.

+1....More sold on Aparijith than even Chand to make it big in the big leagues....Chand(hope he proves me wrong) looks more to be in the Yuvi,Raina mould as an amzing LOI player but Aparijith guy is going to be huge even in test cricket

That's why I am more concerned with Aparajith. he threw his wkt away every match when he could have won us the game comfortably. I can live with a batsman who gets out early but when he gets in he scores a big one. But what do you do with a batsman who can't get past 30s or 40s even when he has got in?

Unmukt is miles ahead any U19 player you and me have seen in last 10 years. Chawla was good, but he did not progress, stagnated. We are talking about how he is at present, no one will be sure how he progresses, but this guys has the attitude. Technique is not everything but temperament which he has shown. It is the time now where their real development start. He started well even in FC cricket. Sehwag in U19 World cup scored total 70 odd runs in whole tournament but that did not prevent him to become a great player.

It might be U19, but there were some excellent bowlers on show when Chand scored his 100s. vs Pakistan (Asia Cup): Zia and the lanky dude. vs Australia (2011): Cummins, Sandhu and Conway vs England (2011): Topley and Overton vs Australia (WC): Paris, Sandhu, Turner, Skeletee All these bowlers were pretty good, and all the pace bowlers were regularly touching 140kph mark.

Chand has the temperament and is mentally tough. His 3 100s in finals are proof enough of the same. These qualities are much more valuable than talent and I expect Chand to make it into the Indian team just like Kohli did. He should replace Sehwag in shorter formats in a couple of year's time.

When the team at cricbuzz caught up with the coach and the captain of the Under19 team before their quadrangular tournament, it was clear to see where the focus was. Batsmen were peppered with short-pitched deliveries, bowlers were given green tracks and players were put to the grind on the tracks to ensure they coped well with the bigger sized grounds in Australia. Chand only confirmed the same when he spoke to us later. "It will take us time to adapt, but we have got wickets at the NCA (in Bangalore) which are grassy and have good bounce. We have been practicing on these wickets. We are also training with plastic balls and trying to play more on the backfoot, especially the cut, hook and pull shots," he said

Many of these youngsters should be going to the World T20. I don't see the point in sending seniors there. I have been calling for the likes of Chand, Mandeep, Rahane to be part of the T20 team. Our line-up in SL should have been: Chand, Rahane, Kohli, Mandeep, Raina, Naman Ojha, Yusuf, Jadeja, Irfan, Awana, Yadav

I tell you this guy Chand's temparement and knock in the finals was very satisfying for a fan. I say this because all the focus and pressure to deliver was put on him; team, coach, commentators and every fan pretty much said he needs to take us home after Aussies scored 225+. It is not easy to deal with that kind of pressure for a long knock where every ball you know at the back of your mind you have to succeed otherwise the team will crumble. Hope he keeps it up and takes it to the senior level :hatsoff::hatsoff:
