Is Gambhir overrated in both tests and ODIs?
Going by stats..he is a really good ODI batsman but lately a below overage opening Test batsman. He is really good at playing big innings in ODIs and performs brilliantly under pressure.

Same question can be said of Zaheer khan . What has he done after WC for the team ? Was rubbish throughout his career except 2 years from 2009-11

Yeah and also he has done well against very few sides like SL, NZ. Apart from WC final, he couldn't do much in many finals. I can already see him above Ganguly in some lists here. That's quite unbelievable tbh. I mean I recall Ganguly as one of the best ODI batsman of all time. He and Sachin formed one of the most prolific opening pair and there was a time when he used to be our best ODI batsman. Ganguly reminds me of not only runs against Kenya and Namibia in 2003 WC, but also runs against Wasim, Razzaq (he was very good at that time) to win our only ODI in the series and runs against Donald, Pollock etc. He is still way behind Ganguly. He certainly looks overrated on ICF. Just before this talk of poor form started, people were including him in list of best current openers and supporting his captaincy on the basis of IPL performance even though his test performance won't be able to keep him in team for long time.

I am talking of test matches in general. As for 2003 WC' date=' Nehra as well as Srinath bowled well.[/quote'] Nehra and Srinath bowling well doesnt mean Zaheer wasnt great in the 2003 world cup.

Actually looking at the stats i was really surprised by the poor numbers Gambhir has against the likes of SA Aus and Pak.Perhaps he is Gambhir is overrated despite his 97 in wc final. But i suppose because the occasion and importance of that 97 he will continue to be overrated by fans.

WC is not the only cricket tournament . Zaheer has been rubbish in 75% of his career.
He screwed up his Test career due to injuries. And most of his career he did not just have less support but had no support at all from the other end. Pathan, Balaji, Agarkar all came and left in no time..he has been our only consistent bowler in all formats. And which part of his career are you referring as rubbish? His career after WC?

Yes after 2011 WC and from 2003-07 . And as for lack of support , that can be said of any Indian bowler. He has done nothing for the team since 2011 WC. If he doesn't do well in ENG test series he should be asked to retire.

He was India's best player along with Kohli in our disastrous test series against Australia.

He wasn't at the best of his form but he did decently in Australia, was poor in the tri series. How many Indian seam bowlers have been in the team for 2-4 years longs since the retirement of Srinath?
