ESPN and Star have ended their terms this year. Just that as per a clause, there's a cooling off period wherein ESPN would be showing the highlights of the matches. But, this is disgraceful from Star.`

I heard about that too, that is News Corp bought out ESPN's share of ESS. I think they(News Corp) will eventually rename ESPN of ESPN STAR as Fox sports and ESPN(original, the walt disney) will have its own channel in India, just my guess.

Does this mean all EPL matches will only be in star from next season?

In fact Star has already started a new channel Star Sports 2 so when the ESPN-Star partnership finally ends, Star will still have 3 channels.

IIRC it was Espn-Star that bid for the EPL rights (and also those of La Liga and India's Test matches and Domestic cricket and of Wimbledon and F1 etc) so either they will share it (as they've done for so many years in India) or one of them will buy the others' stake to show all the matches of a particular tournament/league/country.

If ESPN loses these 2 contracts well, then they would literally vanish from the Indian market! They would not have anything major to show up in the Indian market. I guess, all the Grand slams and the F1 races are also shown on Star.

I remember about 2 years ago the MotoGP races were shown on both Ten Sports and Neo Sports - two different networks having the rights to one tournament. So I guess in case of Espn-Star splitting, either both will have the rights or one will buy the others' share in the rights to have exclusive telecast rights. Also, currently they have lots and lots of content - Indian cricket (both the international team and domestic cricket), Champions League (both the ODIs and IPL ones) and World Cups in cricket, La Liga, EPL, Serie A, FI, Wimbledon, Australian Open, Olympics (2016) and both the groups (Espn and Star) have deep pockets so they can buy each others' stake in the rights.

yeah i think so,they do have joint venture for broadcast in india.the epl,serie A,la liga will still be shown in espn-star in india
