I think one can find a lot of actors with a few gems here and there. DiCaprio has one of the longest run for doing good movies. Much like the early and middle career of DeNiro.

Now somebody gonna go after you for using Leonardo and DeNiro in same sentence :cantstop:

And no current actor could have played Akshay Kumar's role is Singh is King. Or Salman's role in Dabbangg. Does that make SK and AK great actors too? Look, acting is clearly subjective. What you think a good performance (Downey Jr in Ironman for example) does not equate to good acting, definitely not for me. Years later Downey Jr would be remembered for his comic timing in Tropic Thunder. He will also be remembered for commercial success of Ironman, but I doubt anyone would use that as a barometer of how good an actor he is/was. :winky::winky:
You my friend are the best in the business to take an argument on a tangent :hail: You said that SciFi/Super hero movies don't have the scope for good acting which is wrong....Btw Downey was nominated for Oscar for Tropic Thunder which he lost to Ledger for playing the Joker in batman....Johnny Depp was nominated for Pirates......Now you might say Oscars are not the Benchmark but like it or not on a global scale Oscars mean more than Lurker or Maniac's analysis on ICF....Now please don't even bring Filmfare and SCreen awards to compare them. Now more in Desi ishtyle-You do realise that playing a complex mythological character like Raavan or Duryodhan is not every average actors cup of tea right? There has to be some dramatic elements playing over the top characters and not every one can pull those off.....I would equate roles like that those in most superhero movies. As far as Singh is King or Dabang goes...correct me if I am wrong but they were written keeping the actors bodylanguage and limitations in mind and not the other way round where a character is first created and then a suitable actor to pull it off is cast. I gave you example of Sholay earlier where carcature like role is brought to life and made legendary by an amazing actor...Hope that answers it for you

Not really. Johny Depp as an actor is probably one of the best we have right now. His acting in Pirates of Carribean is pretty good, not that I consider it as good as say Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption, but still darn good. That role provided him more opportunity than the man in Iron Suit. You may not agree and thats quite fine. But to me Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder is an actor, in Ironman he is a performer. I differentiate the two :winky:

Everything is acting. The good ones rise above the scripts. Good actors do (like RDJ in Avengers/Iron Man series). Others merely perform the role as per what the scripts needs them to or what the director tells them to do it.
