maniac Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 So the Looper Yesterday.....Terrific movie,Great performances,Great Action and to top it all it has got one of the 2nd most used SCI-concepts after Alien theory which is Time Travel. Now keeping movies aside...there have been from time to time rational debates about Time Travel,if ever it is possible....Most scientists have totally ridiculed this idea while a few have said never say never. Obviously so many practical and logical questions come in if we discuss this concept but hey but when a story is told in a way eliminating as many loopholes as possible it does want to make you think....Now before the resident scientists ridicule me for mixing up science and movies...the most important factor common to both science and art is imagination.....So what do you guys think about Time Travel?

The Outsider Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Wormholes are the most plausible mathematical constructions to admit time travel under the framework we know of, and even then there are certain theorems assumed in their construction which prevent time travel in most scenarios. For time travel to be a reality we need: 1. New mathematics which allows the construction of objects allowing it because the most plausible construct, wormhole does not do a very good job. 2. There are certain restrictions in the construction which can restrict either forward of backward travel in time. For a realistic confirmation of time travel both directions should be allowed in the theory, which is even harder to do.

Then you would have to destroy the original self of the teleported living thing, Grangier said. "It's quite possible to teleport photons and ions, maybe many of them within a very carefully controlled quantum computer. Future builds itself based on what happens in present - what is happening now and what choices we are making today play a critical role in the equation that leads us to what happens in future. If I tell you what happens in future, it will influence your activities in present and the choices you make now. Hence, the future will change and hence, whatever I tell you about future right now, however genuine it may be, will never happen - because you will have changed it by your knowledge of future. Understand? Now I will take a nap. Time travel is exhausting.

Then, teleoporting can be reduced to the task of saving that information, compressing, transmitting, and recreating at other end point. Similarly for other objects, e.g. you don't have to transport Pyramid physically, when you can copy the blueprint and reproduce at the other end.
