fineleg
I would have usually said they need to earn their place back. But I hate to say, we dont have a choice. TINA, TINA, TINA, TINA, TINA We cant afford to have #7-#11 who dont know how to hold a bat. We need to get VS and IP in the 11, so these two can atleast bat and bowl a bit. Link to comment
karina
our biggest successes have been with these 2 in the team, or at least with one of them in the team...and compared to some others their fielding was brilliant. Link to comment
jf1gp_1
whats wrong with uthappa or rohit sharma. why reject them even before giving uttapa a longer run and atleast give rohit sharma a game. Link to comment

Ram
just get pathan instead of munaf or agarkar I dont see how Irfan will be any less effective than Agarkar/Munaf in this ODI Team. If he were there , he could have been sent in at no.3 and quickfire 35 off 20 balls from him would have made a huge difference. His contributions were vital in helping us achieve the golden run we did in ODIs in 2005.Its time to get Irfan back. Link to comment

yoda
irfan's bowling was total crap before he was dropped and his batting had declined as well. Link to comment
Ram
how do you know sriram?? I dont know Veer , I am speculating. It is obvious we lost today because we were one batsman short. The presence of Irfan would have given the team more options today. There is no way in this planer Powar is at no.7. He is an embarrassment there. Honestly speaking , how do you think a RP Singh/Munaf or for that matter even Zaheer will be more useful than Irfan in this one day side. Link to comment
Ram
irfan's bowling was total crap before he was dropped and his batting had declined as well. Players go through such phases. Its not like he has forgotten how to bowl. He is a natural talent. If he is in the team , he will come up with match-winning performances more often than some of the players in this team. It sure seemed like it. This chap was totally clueless, and his bowling had plummetted so low, and yoda is right that his batting had a dip too (his batting had a minor dip, not as bad as his bowling dip). But TINA TINA TINA is forcing us, and as I said I am usually one who says Prove it before we let you back in the team. But maybe, just maybe, time for IP to come back *sigh* TINA Link to comment
Ram
I am telling you Irfan at his worst , will win you more matches/matches played than Agarkar or RP Singh in ODIs. At worst , he is a decent no.7 bat , who can bowl semi-decent medium pace. At his best , he a decent no.7/attacking no.3 bat , who takes wickets with the new ball and wins you one in every 4/5 matches he plays. Choose your pick. Link to comment

fineleg
Marirs, You said "At worst , he is a decent no.7 bat , who can bowl semi-decent medium pace" Agree with the decent bat portion. Regarding the "semi-decent", I'm not sure what I can expect out of that. Would that mean 6 overs 30 runs, no wickets or 4 overs for 40 runs (towards the end of his being dropped, he used to be like this). Sometimes, when we are trying to defend 230 total, he used to be 5 overs-35 runs-0 wickets, then in that contex ER of 7.0 is expensive too. QUESTION: What would be your ODI lineup - list your 11 since I'd like to see if IP is the 4th bowler or 5th bowler? My lineup: 1. SG (have Uthappa or Shikhar Dhawan et al as backup) 2. SRT 3. YS 4. RD 5. Sehwag? or KKD? 6. MSD? or KKD? {choose 2 between KKD, Sehwag and MSD => VS can bowl a bit} 7. IP 8. ZK 9. Sreesanth (can bat a bit) or maybe RP Singh (if RPS move him lower) 10. Chawla 11. Powar Chuck Munaf "cannot field" Patel, and Craparkar into Atlantic ocean. Link to comment

But the point is , he is not going to be at his worst for ever. If he comes back NOW , i am pretty sure he will take wickets at the top and bowl well. You cant hide natural talent for long. And Irfan is just that. QUESTION: What would be your ODI lineup - list your 11 since I'd like to see if IP is the 4th bowler or 5th bowler? This would be my line-up. Sehwag/Uthappa Sachin Ganguly Yuvraj Dravid Karthik Dhoni Pathan Zaheer Munaf/RPS Powar. That is a strong batting line-up. We need firepower at the top.And there is no way we keep going into odis with 5 specialist bowlers who cant hold a bat. Link to comment

Ok, in your lineup IP is 4th bowler...thats a BIG worry. Even if IP bowls well, we need SRT, YS, VS etc to share 10 overs. (maybe SG?) If its not his day, we would be scrambling for 16 overs. If IP is in form, then this is an awesome lineup (will still throw MP into atlantic ocean) Link to comment
