The tender had invited bids with respect to 12 cities: Ahmedabad, Cuttack, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kochi, Nagpur, Noida, Rajkot, Ranchi and Vizag. It is also learnt that the opening of the bids will be followed by the IPL governing council meeting. As many as six buyers have bought tender documents since October 15 to win the right to own and operate the ninth franchise for the next five years. As per a new clause, the bidders will have to submit a performance deposit of R20 crore as guarantee against failing to provide the annual bank guarantee on time after winning the bid. The Sun TV network won the bid for the Hyderabad franchise and piped corporate giants PVP Ventures, who went in with a 69.03 cr per year bid. The BCCI had placed a base price of 300 crore for the new IPL team. The new franchise comes in the shadow of the BCCI terminating the debt-ridden Deccan Chargers after they failed to find new buyers, which thereby made it evident that a new team would play in the sixth edition of the IPL. The Board also added a new clause in the contract whereby it holds the right to terminate the contract of the franchise if a situation occurs where the franchise fails to pay its players. It was confirmed through sources in the BCCI that at least six major corporate houses would turn up for the bidding process and would show interest to own the ninth franchise. The bidders included corporate giants PVP Ventures, who had earlier failed to procure the Deccan franchise after their 900cr bid was rejected, and the Jaypee Group, who have already brought Formula One to Noida. The bids for the new franchise had been invited by the BCCI from 12 cities that included Noida, Cuttack, Kochi, Indore, Ahmedabad, Ranchi and Visakhapatnam.

Too many matches, too much over exposure maybe? Not really. Deccan Chargers were offered 900 crores for selling their franchise by PVP ventures earlier which they didnt accept. It shows how valuable to them the franchise is. They were trying to sell DC only because of their financial problems and not because the franchise was not profitable to them.

Its per year cost. The initial auction were for 10 years and Ambanis got the most expensive team at 110 crore for 10 years. Now the value is 85 crore per year. The base price was 300 crore for the remaining 5 years I think which is 60 crore per year. Auctions cannot be completed below base price.
