BBC joins Sky in BCCI broadcast wrangle

Sad, Sky unfortunately have some third-rate coverage now. The commies cannot provide half the analysis as normal. Even with Tendulkar's dismissal, it took them until the guy actually took the catch to know there was a man out there. I think (as mentioned earlier) Atherton is in India for the Times so he is Sky's only man out there. Wouldn't it be good if someone like Nasser could be on the Indian feed (I guess he and ShastriBot have too much history...). But yes all in all it's a shame for all concerned, and this issue regarding picture is truly pathetic.

Seriously WTF! Even CI aren't allowed to take photos. BS!
BCCI has banned all photo agencies like getty images and all that. They said they will provide their own pictures.

IDK why but it seems like Star Cricket has some role to play here. Remember how they were after radio commentary and scorecards?
BCCI has been trying to get people to use their *****y live scores which they only update when they choose. Rather than trying to work with people who do a fantastic job of whatever they're doing, BCCI are trying to take control of everything...In the end its the fan that loses.. no choice and what we're being served is of poor quality

I do not think it's the BCCI. I think Star Cricket has changed certain clauses in the contract for more money. I think this has come from Star with BCCI just playing along for more moolah. It is nonetheless despicable on both parties.

its a bit **** watching the sky coverage when you know they are commentating from a studio in london. you don't get the anecdotes and little stories and jokes about what the commies have been doing, their journeys + experiences etc. it makes for bland commentary and worse that it's a test where there were large parts where they hardly had anything to talk about.

Totally agree. Plus it's hard enough getting up at 3am to watch cricket let alone commentate and analyse. I feel sorry for these guys, making the best of what they have, and they have no clue what will actually come up on the feed or be sure where fielders are. They would usually have an Indian rep as well.

TMS team are in India at least. Mute TV commentary and put that on? Damn, this talk shows the lengths people will go to avoid L Siva! :banghead: Red button must be used by about 2 people in the UK :hysterical:

Star has nothing to do with it. It's between sky and BCCI. BCCI are producing the coverage and giving the feed to star. All Star are doing it is showing, but due to the fact that Star have the global rights to show this worldwide they also get studio space at each of the ground to produce the pre and post match shows. Sky who don't have any contract with BCCI but have a sub licence from Star to show all India cricket in the UK, wanted their own studio space & comms box at each of the ground. Somebody has to bear the bill for that additional studio space and comm box - the local cricket association, BCCI or sky. The local cricket association or BCCI are obviously not very charitable, so sky will have to pay for it. Generally most cricket boards have individual contracts with television companies locally and therefore that contract wold generally include studio space - eg. ECB & CA have contracts with sky for UK, ESS for Asian subcontinent ,ch 9 for aus etc- they rarely tend to have one global contract like India do.

Do you even know what we were discussing about despite the thread title?

Have to say that despite the limitations enforced on them the Sky boys are doing a terrific job of making the commentary seem as normal as possible. It must be extremely frustrating to be commentating when you are unaware of the field placements and other elements of the game that you simply cannot gauge from a TV screen yet they have carried out their job in an extremely professional manner. And still there is room for a few jokes along the way for example we saw bumble and beefy having an ice lol pretending they were in India!
