Did a quick check... a county player devotes upto 90 days in just above 150 days (5 months) in a season. About 60 percent.. I.e Surely 47 in 90 is better than that?

scrap ranji trophy,reduce number of teams...have duleep trophy on home & away basis with only 5 zonal teams. these zonal teams can be selected based on zonal comepetition.

Well, I did a quick calculation of the very maximum number of days a player will have to play (assuming he plays all Zonals, and has to go by the longest route (playing pre quarters and quarters in every tourney) - and it comes to 91 days in 6 months. About 50% playing time. And that is due to two Irani trophys scheduled this season, scrap that and it is down to 86 at the max. Remember the corresponding number for English county players is 90 from about 150 days. I don't think there is merit in the argument that Indian domestic players are overworked more than players from other nations, not atleast English ones.

nope.. this may be radical, but there is no other way to reduce teams as it would eat into BCCI's votes. Only by having lesser teams can the selectors watch the teams/players.

Right and wrong - A player who also gets selected to Duleep and Irani and made the finals in all cases, would have played 16 matches. But remember that out of these 5 are five-day games. No point in playing 16 county matches if you can barely rise from the bottom, what is the use in being cannon fodder to the stronger teams?

Not really.. Domestic cricket serves and should serve purpose of being a feeder for the national team. States aren't really important, individuals are. If someone does really well in those 8 matches, he does stand a chance of getting selected into the zonals. Zonal increases competitiveness by a notch or two, and the designated player no longer has to "curtail" himself by continuing to play for a weaker side, thereby even reducing his own morale and competitiveness. But doing away completely with state based Ranji Trophy is also laughable, as it has got a history of its own. Plus it is the natural progression from District level. Dispensing with it will involve considerable infrastructural changes, and can lead to concentration of power in the hands of a few. Why fix something that ain't broken?

The Mohali track has seen a 500+ score already. The Eden track is indeed a good one. Great bowling by Pankaj Singh and Sourav Sarkar.

The garden have always been a good surface. It depends on the curator there on how to adjust it. IMO...Eden track & the way the ground is built...allows all quality players to show their talent.

Greentops are necessary but even more importantly we need some dustbowls. If one looks at the pacers coming through there are some half-decent ones such as Pankaj, PK, etc who are in domestic cricket but not in the Test side. But, when it comes to spinners, the fact that Bhajji was selected just goes on to show how poor our spin bowling stocks are. SLA spinners - too many people coming up. Vikas Mishra, Harmeet Singh, Darekar, etc are all SLA bowlers. Off-spinners - apart from Ashwin, I don't see any promising off-spinners. If only the Murali clone's action had been legal - his stats were really impressive. Leg-spinners - the fact that Chawla and Mishra are our best options shows how bare the cupboard is. Left arm chinaman - completely absent.
