Awful era for wrist spin! Will we ever see a class wrist spiner again?

The era of wrist spin was dead and over. Then warne came and host of other legends like Kumble and Mushtaq Ahmed. Even the less legndary wristys were class, look at Mcgill and Hogg. We were spoilt and saying how wrist spin was back. Now its dismal. The best and only wrist spinner in tests is Tahir and he is dreadful. After that I believe there are no other wirstys in a test side(no idea about bangla but then I dont count them as a test side). Is the era of the wrist spinner over?? Or is there someone class waiting. At the moment its all about finger spinners. Ajmal, Oijha, Swann, Rehman, Ashwin, Narine etc etc

I cant see a decent leggie on fringes of any side. At the moment Tahir is best leggie in the world, which sums up the issue

Nah. He simply does not turn his leggie. Has good control and decent googlie, maybe odi player but no more. Also as small he gets no bounce, which coupled with non turning leggie renders him average

He has talent ... that is what is dissapointing. He is too inconsistent. Bowls two boundary balls every over.

Another Good Leggy talent that I can think off is Bishoo .. I dont know why West Indies discarded him for Narine who is pathetic in tests.

Chawla does not turn his leggie, its more of a top spinner. No fit to tie shoe laces of leggies I mentioned in OP.

India have one in Murugan Ashwin (still early days) - http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/528067.html Bradd Hogg and Beau Casson were pretty decent. The latter had to give up his career due to health issues even after he bowled so well against the West Indies.

Well when he's not fixing matches ... or bowling to a match fixing drop machine ... Kaneria is still a decent leggie. One wonders what could have been if he and his teammates were honest men.

Does anybody know what Rahul Sharma's doing nowadays? Is he playing First Class cricket? He is a good LOI bowler and has done well in the limited chances he's got. He should be given a test debut only if he performs in domestic. Another leggie I saw recently is M Ashwin who was turning it big with decent control in the Kar vs TN match.

The entire culture of leg spin bowling has taken a hit with the popularity of limited overs cricket and recently the T20 invasion. Leg spinners generally take time to mature and gain control. They are very prone to having the odd disastrous match, which can be ill afforded in today's cricket. So unless there is a Warne or a Kumble who would have impeccable control right from the start of their career it would be very difficult for one to come in and mature on the world stage.

Bishoo always looked the most promising of the modern 'crop' but maybe has encountered the anticipated problems. Let's hope he bounces back. Tahir is a joke. All he has done in international cricket is take wickets of 9, 10 and jack with his wrong'un and celebrate like he has secured world peace.

Yaar king I remember Chawla turning his leggies when he emerged. Hight should not be problem Mushi never turned his leg spin big but was cornerstone of our success in 90s esp away from home. Despite being a short guy he outfoxed teams batsmen with good drift and loop.

That's another T20 syndrome. With majority of the batsmen being right handed, no one better than left arm darters to spear it into the pads or bowl pitching outside leg lines from over the wicket. Utalk: Chawla is pretty poor. Right from the start it was his googly which got him attention, but his front on action means he has never been a big turner of the leg spin. You might have watched him on some turning track. Mishra was very promising, but he has put on so much weight that he has completely lost any zip he had in his bowling.

Agree - and in some ways the pitches have an effect too. Since the pitches are slow, spinners now need to bowl 10kph faster to be effective - the most effective spinners today bowl a bit faster to not allow batsmen the time to adjust.

The way he faded after he debuted against Australia was really disappointing.
