Can some MOD please modify the title of this thread? Prabir Mukherjee has not been removed or anything, he is still doing his job with the assistance of the East Zone curator. Apparently, that is the norm and even last year during the India-WI Test match, the East Zone curator had assisted Mukherjee for the same purpose. I think the media has twisted facts to create 'Breaking news, breaking news' and has made us dance to its tunes.

No i do not think so yesterday on tv when he was asked about east zone curator he said I am senior than me and i know more about the pitch but he{east zone curator] has been sent by bcci. so i have to follow his instructions and he is my boss.

Kolkata: Veteran Eden Gardens curator Prabir Mukherjee on Wednesday said he will not have much of a say in preparation of the pitch for the third India-England Test, beginning Dec 5, with the East Zone curator Ashish Bhowmick being brought in to oversee the ground. Fresh controversy on Wednesday broke out over the Eden Gardens track after the BCCI appointed East Zone curator Ashish Bhowmick to prepare the pitch in place of veteran Prabir Mukherjee who is known to have differences with Indian captain MS Dhoni. In a surprise development, the BCCI asked Bhowmick to oversee the preparations of the track which will host the third Test between India and England, sidelining Mukherjee who has been in charge of the historic Eden pitch for decades. "He is going there as per BCCI's instruction. But I've no idea whether he has replaced the local curator there (Prabir Mukherjee). I'm not aware of the details," TCA secretary Arindam Ganguly told PTI. Mukherjee acknowledged that he may have to play second fiddle to Bhowmick whom he described as his "boss". "It's OK. At that time he will be my boss and I will obey what my boss says. Because he is coming from the BCCI," he said when asked whether he will be able to work with Bhowmick. Mukherjee said he was not sidelined but the Board has sent Bhowmick to "help" him out for preparing the track for the third Test against England beginning December 5. "It's not that I've been removed or sidelined. We will work together to prepare the wicket. I'm more than happy to assist him," the 83-year-old, who is associated with Eden since 1985, said. "(Ashish) Bhowmick is a very sincere boy, and I know him well. He has been asked by the Board to help me out. It's not something that is happening for the first time. I don't understand what's the fuss about it. Even in the past, we had gone to other centres to help the local man out." On Dhoni's demand for a turner, he asked, "Is it practically possible if somebody asks me to prepare an Australian-type wicket here? Several factors (soil, weather conditions) depend on the constitution of wicket." CAB joint-secretary Sujan Mukherjee, however, termed Bhowmick's visit as a "routine" inspection tour and maintained that the 83-year-old Mukherjee has not been replaced. The BCCI's move to send Bhowmick to Kolkata ahead of the third Test has raised many eyebrows as, only on Sunday, Daljit Singh, who is the chairman of BCCI's ground and pitches committee, did a recce of the same Eden track. Senior BCCI official and IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla refused to read too much into the matter and said the decision to send Bhowmick to Kolkata was taken by the Board's ground and pitch committee. "All the curators work independently. This is absolutely wrong (that Dhoni had a role). No decisions are taken on the advise of anyone. The grounds and pitch committee of the BCCI took the decision in this matter," Shukla said. Outspoken and forthright, Mukherjee has in the past criticised Dhoni for his demands on pitches, and this time too the veteran reportedly had a difference of opinion with the Indian skipper on the nature of track to be prepared for the Eden Test. In the second Test, Wankhede curator Sudhir Naik, offered a turner at Mumbai which helped spinners from Day 1, but the move backfired as India suffered a humiliating 10-wicket loss to England who levelled the series with the emphatic win. Even after being thrashed on a customised Wankhede track, Dhoni had insisted for a similar rank turner for the Eden Test. Both Dhoni and Eden curator, Mukherjee are known for their critical remarks against each other. During England's last appearance here (for an ODI on October 25, 2011), Dhoni had termed Eden an "ugly wicket".

Unhappy Eden Gardens curator takes a month-long sick leave

Kolkata: Unhappy with the treatment meted out to him by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the BCCI, the pitch curator of the Eden Gardens, Prabir Mukherjee, has decided to take a month-long sick leave. There were reports on Saturday that Mukherjee had resigned following his fallout with MS Dhoni and the BCCI, who had asked him to prepare a spinning track for India's third Test against England beginning December 5. But Mukherjee clarified that he hadn't resigned yet and he had taken leave on health grounds. Did not SA Score easily on that pitch.really he left some grass of what i remember but In india i have seen many pitches have a green tinge but play well.

Then it was the wicket. It was a very un-Indian kind of strip and I was very, very surprised. Indians do not play their cricket on such kind of pitches, they prefer the flatter types where spinners come into business and even fast bowlers are conditioned to bowl in a certain style. But this one was right up South Africa's alley. Shaun Pollock must have been licking his lips and offering words of gratitude to the groundsman. If indeed it was Kolkata's way of showing their anger at the omission of their most beloved son from the squad, it was strange and sad. A region or a country should not lose purpose or the bigger goal and must plan accordingly. It was also uncharacteristic to see so full-throated support to the South Africans on an Indian ground. Feelings do run deep in this part of the world.
