kubrickian Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 At least Ashwin will improve. Jadeja won't. Will remain a bits and pieces cricketer for life. Watch any over from Ashwin and see if he ever bowled 6 deliveries around the same line and length. He simply lacks the consistency that is required of a test match bowler and has a long way to go before he can be effective. He got some wickets earlier because batsmen failed to pick his variations, much like Mendis. Also, there is no reason why Jadeja wont improve. Because he has very good control unlike Ashwin and will definitely add more tricks to his armory as he gets experience. I rate Jadeja as a much better bowler in tests than Ashwin. Ojha is head and shoulders better than anyone else. What we need is a right arm offie who can be a strike bowling option but unfortunately we dont have any good options at present. Bhajji's form has really nose dived.
King Tendulkar Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Ashwin is even worse than him as a spinner in tests. He relies only on variations and not testing line and length and flight. So if batsmen pick him like English batsmen in the recent test series and also Aussie batsmen have shown they do in ODIs and T20s, he will be as easy to play as Raina or Yuvraj. So who are you going to pick as a spinner other than Ojha ? No. I am also suspicious of ashwin as quality spin bowler but he is better the Jadeja thats for sure. Jadeja is more of a containing spinner , suited for odis. In tests he is not good enough!!! Ashwin has at least had some good moments in tests. Oijha is best spinner(ranked 9 in tests), second spinner is an issue. but Jadeja is defo not the answer
shortbread Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 The biggest issue will continue to be the openers, Sehwag will be inconsistent, Gambir will be a walking wicket for the OZs, Rahane looks lost........within the first 5 overs of the Indian innings the pressure will be on the likes of Pujara, Kohli and Australia will be calling the shots!!!!
diga Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 At least Ashwin will improve. Jadeja won't. Will remain a bits and pieces cricketer for life. Ashwin is more of a T20/ODI bowler than a test bowler .. His s/r in tests as well as FC is around 63, i.e gets a wkt every 10 overs.
Lord Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 No. I am also suspicious of ashwin as quality spin bowler but he is better the Jadeja thats for sure. King Tendulkar Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Ashwin feated on mighty WI n NZ.was poor in Aus too.Jadeja has only played one match on patta n did okay compared to other spinners.too early to write him off imo Just dont rate his spin as wicket taker at all. Not good enough period for tests as a bowler, use the eyes, surely you can see this. Also as a batsman not good enough. Cant play quality pace, bounce or swinging ball. Starting to wish he did not do so well in odis if it means he makes test team:giggle:

But can see why ashwin could be dropped or position under threat, that does not mean jadeja gets in though.

diga Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 BTW, Ashwin avgs 45 batting in tests compared to Virat Kohli - 39
Lord Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Agree doubts over ashwin but still better spinner then jadeja . But Jadeja should play in the side too. You cant just write him off without giving him a proper run.
saneindian Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Jadeja has sealed his spot in the test side as the 3rd spinner especially if a turning track is being rolled out for the Aussies. Need someone who can dart it and take advantage of those turning tracks. Both Ojha and Ashwin can't dart it due to poor fitness.
King Tendulkar Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 no,I dont think he should play Tests as of now either, but he surely can improve, deserves to go on A tours imo. though I'd have him anyday instead of Yuvraj n Raina:giggle: hes doing well in ODIs though n should play there for a while Yuvraj and Raina are better batsman then Jadeja as well. King Tendulkar Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Bloody hell this is confusing On one hand I have to defend and praise jadeja to be in odi team. On other hand I have to criticiise him to not be in test team:hysterical:
kubrickian Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 But his skills are just not good enough How many tests have you seen him play ? He just played 1 game and that too on a dead track and picked 3 wickets. He will be a good support bowler especially because there arent too many other options.
saneindian Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 The players will have a 3 week break post th final ODI vs England. 1st test vs Aus starts only on 22nd Feb. Not much FC cricket left except for a Irani Trophy match with the Ranji winner where some of the players will be involved, else the Ranji one dayers which most of the superstars will skip anyways. Hopefully the BCCI forces them to attend at least a week long pre-series conditioning camp. Don't know when was the last time we had such a camp.
jj_28 Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Sehwag/Rahane Gambhir Pujara Kohli Yuvi/Raina Tiwary (if fit) Dhoni Ashwin Zaheer Yadav Ojha

He will be a good support bowler especially because there arent too many other options. Dont want support bowlers, you sum it up by that statement. We need proper bowlers who in their own right can do the business. Much prefer ashwin and oijha. Then identify proper 3rd spinner if needed. Jadeja is a very good bits and pieces player, great for odis. But in tests need to be great in one of the disciplines of bowling/batting. He is neither.
kubrickian Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Sehwag/Rahane Gambhir Pujara Kohli Yuvi/Raina Tiwary (if fit) Dhoni Ashwin Zaheer Yadav Ojha :wall: I dont think you know much about test cricket or have been watching tests lately.
