vvvslaxman Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 You cannot strictly draw a line and ask all the parents in the world to adhere to that. Kids do dangerous things that could even hurt themselves. At times some parents cross the limit. There was this toddler who would not listen to his parents for playing with TV ended up getting killed TV falling on him. Child neglect is equally criminal. Let us assume you keep advising him not to do something that would hurt him. He keeps doing. What would you do? At some points parents snap. Some kids are obedient. Some kids are absolute brats. Some kids are aloof. They all come with different personalities. i don't suggest leaving burn marks, beating the hell out of the kids is the way. Those are condemnable. But occasional slapping, threatening has been part and parcel of parenting all over the world which should not be interefered with by Government. Pampering is equally detrimental to child's development. If he gets whatever he wants at home through tantrum he believes he can get the same in the outside world as well.
anotherhawkeye Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 slapping kids and beating them up is ok ? Yep. Caveat: Not always, not to all kids. Occasional disciplining may be required for some brats. I want to keep that option open for parents and want to keep nanny state out of parenting. VVS said it best, couple of posts above mine.

That would be absurdly cruel.
coffee_rules Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Beating never solves anything. The kids cries at the moment and forgets it in the next 5 mins or so or go immune or indifferent about the beating once they start to bear the pain as they grow older. (unless the beating is so harsh). In general, the kind of beating normal Indian parents do serves no purpose. The kid doesn't learn from the mistake, the parents will live with the guilt that they beat the kid. What usually works when the kid is made to think about the mistake, like take away their favorite toy, play time. etc. I have seen some Indian parents beat the crap out of the toddler for tripping and falling down on the road, for not being careful enough.

yoda Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Physical abuse is never to be condoned. That said, people do make mistakes and there should be proportional punishment. This I feel is extreme.

They just let them be on their own.I would rather have a parent who show so much love coupled with occasional disciplining. My pediatrician here advised to give time out at the very early age for disciplining. HItting is not the solution. But some kind of punishment is needed for most kids from what i have seen. If you can't correct in 5 you can't correct in 50.. crude translation of a Tamil proverb.
Tiger80 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 What is bharat sarkar expected to do when its citizens are caught beating up young kids and what do people want the sarakar to do ? Desi Cartman Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012  Comparing a government of developed nation with 5 million population with government of developing nation with 1.25 billlion what comparison ? im asking what should bharat sarkar be doing to defend these people who abused their kid
someone Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Beating never solves anything. Either would not beating. It's all about having a balance. Just like a society, there are going to be benefits for doing something good and punishment for doing something bad. It's the similar idea here. Of course, having too much of it as it's own consequences while none of it has its other consequences. Thus, as said, it's all about balance. You really need a bit of it to grow and its really part of life rather than danger to life.
