I know a lot of people have reservations about ICC rankings but I think it portrays a fair view taking in to account, the performance of a team or player over a certain period of time. Currently the highest Test run scorer is ranked at 19 but I think he will be outside top 25 when he retires. I think Ponting was at 26 when he retired. btw am talking about only test cricket here.

who cares?
Well, it will show how he finishes his career. does he go out on top or when at the rock bottom.

fark it man...who cares? He's the greatest player to have ever been associated with the game of cricket
i have alread said he's ATG but talking about rankings based on recent period
