Hello, Rahane here, anyone listening?

Is he really up for the challenge as an ODI opener. He might do well down the order? He just doesn't construct the innings as well as he should for an opener.
Players like Rahane and Rohit are more suited to Tests and this is what the thread was all about, i.e. to give Rahane a break in Tests. For odis I would prefer likes of Ishank Jaggi or Kedar Jadhav get a look-in. Unfortunately in India selectors pick players for wrong formats - Yuvi & Raina for Tests and Rahane & Rohit for shorter formats. Sometimes I wonder whether the selectors even fllow domestic cricket and know how to differentiate between different formats?

Rahane is batsman who bats at 3 or 4. He is not an opener. Try this XI: 1. Gautam Gambhir 2. Cheteshwar Pujara 3. Virat Kohli 4. Ajinkya Rahane 5. Yuvraj Singh 6. MS Dhoni (CAPTAIN & WK) 7. Suresh Raina 8. Ravindra Jadeja 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar 10. Ashok Dinda / Ishant Sharma 11. Shami Ahmed

If there is a guy who needs to be dropped that is Gambhir. Most useless player in the squad.

Thats fine, but Rahane shouldnt be used as an opener. Bring in Shikhar Dhawan instead

I dont understand why Rahane tries to play so many shots in every innings I've seen him play. When the ball is swinging a bit like today at the beginning, why cant he just play himself in and try to take singles as much as possible or at least try to stay at the wicket ? It just baffles me that so many of the new Indian batsmen just throw their wicket away when they face a decent spell of bowling or when the conditions are not ideal for batting. Its a result of playing too much cricket in flat, batting friendly conditions. No patience or temperament to try and fight it out and build an innings. Dhoni and Raina, despite not having a text book technique show plenty of grit and determination to battle it out and stay out there as much as possible when the situation is tough. No such signs from Rohit, Rahane, Vijay etc.

Because he normally likes to start his innings with singles or offside shots, but those are cut off due to fielding restrictions. When this is cut off and he is bogged down he panics and starts playing all sorts of shots because he has been given the role of the aggressor vis a vis Gambhir. Beginning to think like some others here that he might be better lower down the order as he can rotate the strike very well and attack when he is set like he has shown in the past. Or else need to partner him with a aggressive opener and not Pokambhir.

Give Rahane a break, just 2 games since his come-back. He should play all the games he can as an opener before CT and then be judged. Our middle order is packed with Kohli-Yuvi-Raina-Dhoni. So he has to play as opener if he's to be in the ODI setup.
