Delhi Gangrape | Four accused sentenced to death

Meanwhile Supreme court decides that sentence for a brutal rape & murder crime where 1 person is stabbed 21 times, another 19 times should be reduced because the poor criminal had alcohol. How the **** is this supposed to be a deterrent ??? The convict, Sandesh Abhang, had stabbed the old woman 21 times, severed four fingers of one hand and chopped off the other wrist. He then raped her granddaughter-in-law, stabbed her 19 times, including in her neck, and left believing her to be dead. He later boasted to his friends that he had killed two women and was not afraid of anyone. The woman was five-month pregnant and gave birth to her child later. The accused, a mechanic, had entered the house in the afternoon saying "sahib ne bheja hain" for some work. His intention was to rob, but angered that the older woman's bangles were not of gold, he chopped her fingers and wrist. The pregnant woman had helplessly pleaded with the accused to spare their lives and take away the valuables but even after taking the gold jewellery, he had in a cold-blooded manner killed the older woman by slashing her neck with his kukri, then at knife-point made the younger woman remove her clothes before raping her. The court observed that the younger woman "displayed wisdom and bravery. She received injuries on her back to protect the child in her womb and pretended to be dead by lying down quietly.'' http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/SC-commutes-death-penalty-for-man-who-brutally-killed-65-year-old-woman-raped-and-stabbed-pregnant-granddaughter-in-law/articleshow/17906921.cms

I left India 14 years ago. Every ensuing year I have heard how great India has become - an economic powerhouse' date=' skyrocketing corporate compensations, great career opportunities etc - and why it is stupid of me to not return and be amongst the .1 percentile there. Having lived the first 22 years of life in India I couldn't but get over my skepticism of what India really is and what it tries to portray. We can portray a world class IGI airport, but the society still remains a ****-hole. This incident just goes to confirm my feelings and reinforces my decision of having given up my Indian citizenship. I have a daughter - I am glad she won't be growing up in Delhi.[/quote'] Excellent, well said. Like I said earlier, anyone who puts the betterment of their country before their own immediate needs should get their heads checked for rocks. You, like many others, left India for a better life abroad. Considering the dismal state of affairs back in India, I don't see why you nor any other NRI should be apologetic for settling in the west.

Quit using this as an excuse for justifying your remaining away. Personally I have never quite understood this atitude of NRIs. - I would return to India when all is well. Hey nobody is waiting for you, not even the most patient Indians. Sorry didnt mean to be personal, but needed to be said.
Bhai naraz kyoun hotey ho, he has a point.

Excuse? Why would I need an excuse for something that I am glad about? Circumvent the issue if you want' date=' reality is that the underlying filth of the country has gone nowhere. Its just coated at the top better now than it was a decade or two ago. Incidents like this end up exposing the reality.[/quote']If, by some magic, you had the ability to change your appearance/name to that of a native of your adopted country, you would not be ranting about India. Your posts reek of your own insecurity.

People go back or stay abroad for their own personal reasons. If by chance tomorrow, the crime rate in India drops to zero, I doubt you will be packing your bags.

Apparently Congress MPs swear to this mantra.:giggle:

Are you joking me? Are you saying cops should be better than us? Where are those cops coming from? Among us. They are the reflection of us n society n the whole system. Some Cops in the USA are also corrupt but percentage is really small just like politicians there.
Gotta go with veer on this one. Also, unlike Indian cops a lot of US cops are ex military. In good shape, well trained and ready for combat. This is where we miss out hugely. case in point Bombay 26/11. Remember one of the cops throwing a chair in defence? Our cops were woefully short and that when it (Bombay Police) is perhaps our very best. One of my biggest gripe with Indian Cops, and also Indians, is how woefully bad shape we typically are. And also how few of us have ever joined military. If I could change one thing about India that would be it, make atleast couple of years of military service mandatory. That will fix a lot of our problems, in my humble opinion.
I am with you on the compulsory service for a generation or two but cannot agree on the police system. They are under direct control of the governments and their respective leaders have MASSIVE amounts of power in their hands to start with police reforms on a gradual basis. A Manmohan Singh or Sonia Gandhi or for that matter Narendra Modi or Jayalalitha will not be threatened or targetted the way Shanmughan Manjunath or the RTI activists have been murdered regularly. The idea that every civic body is a reflection of the average citizen is rather naive & simplistic. There are heirarchies with increasing powers and particularly in the case of govts who have an ability (and duty) to optimise/overhaul police & judiciary. You and I pay the govt to work for us for umpteen things, the customer shouldn't be blamed for poor quality of services.

Ok then if you heard girls's friends interview then here is what he said.. Three Police van came n didn't do anything for half n hour while deciding which thane to register da case... At the same time bunch of ppl came n stared at them for more than an hour but no one bothered to give them a piece of cloth to cover their naked body. Then same thing happened in hospital. Yeah it was not written anywhere in Jantas duty to do anything but don't you think they didn't fulfill their civic duty?

BTW, I can bring up such incidents about every country you can name and can show how for many people living in India is no much safer and better than living in the US with each passing year. But doubt that will change the stereo-type in your mind. As Lurker said, you are just using it as an excuse to hide your own selfish reasons and of course lack of entrepreneurship. Your post reeks of your own insecurity and identity crisis, its got nothing to do with India. You are just trying to convince yourself of some factds which are not true and of course trying to praise your adopted country. dont worry, everyone does it, but dont confuse your feelings for ground realities. Today many NRIs are coming back in bulk from abroad and feel more secure and richer in India. These numbers are only going to increasee in the coming 20 years

Before you go on any more emotional rants, let is be known that Lurker lives in Arizona and has been living in the states since the late nineties. If anything, you should be targeting your anger at hypocrites like him who, although having settled in the West, keep dreaming and disproportionately keep praising backwards states like Bihar. At the same, he doesn't miss any opportunity to condescend other NRI's who have moved overseas for a better quality of time. There is nothing wrong in what Dragonfly said - I don't see why he should be apologetic, his immediate needs and the needs of his daughter come first. He will go where the opportunities are, irrespective of what anyone thinks.

Here you go, that idiot Lurker in how own words:

Over the years I moved around in USA quite a bit. Worked in a lot of big cities - Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Phoenix etc. Always stayed away from NYC and LA basically because I hate the traffic in these two towns(that and the parking, or the lack thereof). I have missed out on some good chances because of my aversion to these two towns and rarely, if ever, do I make trips to NYC for sight-seeing as well.

Junta including you & me has shown supreme apathy, no two ways about it. My point was about the most important agencies that you guys were referring to: collectively the Indian police from various states. You cannot blame the avg citizen if the police can't fight terrorists or treats the citizens themselves like scum. It reports to the govt & the govt has all that it needs to make it light years better. The media & citizens have a role in reporting the incompetence and demanding better service respectively and that has happened. Hold the govt responsible if that improvement doesn't occur, not the citizen.

Back to having their heads' checked... ...In 2010, around 30,000 people left Britain to make a life in India as per this BBC article. Many are not even NRIs, but 2nd/3rd generation of Indian origin born in the UK. And it's predicted the number will only increase. I have also read similar articles of people of Indian origin born in the US migrating to India to start a new life. So surely thousands of people can't have "rocks" in their heads.

You mistake the luxury of wants for basic needs while defending dragonfly. I know my country wouldn't come into existence in 1947 without the sacrifices of too many and it wouldn't exist for so long if the millions who currently serve & have done so earlier in the Armed Forces had the same selfish thought process. Their blood, sweat & guts gave me and many others an identity and the possibility of a roadmap to a good life. I shall always be thankful to them, and I hope you can at least not disrespect them.

It's a very complex topic, why a person decides to sacrifice for the nation or religion or anything other than his family vs making decisions in the best interest of his family. Not everyone in India is in India is thankful for the sacrifices of others and/or contribute to the betterment of the society or country. Please climb down from the high horse.

As you said not everyone is thanful for the betterment, but its also true that there is no need to even consider ot discuss about these people. They are just doing what any animal will do for survival. No issues with that, but some seem to be proud of it and flaunt ti like a badge and that I have an issue with
