ganeshran
On any pitch, there should be 13 players :protest: Link to comment
maniac
7 batsman??? In the last decade or so when we were succesful in ODI's was because we had atleast 1-2 'proper' batsman in the team....SRT,Gangs,Dravid etc. Look at our ODI squad now...too many so called 'LOI' specialists and bits and pieces players.Yuvraj has become one and Raina will get there soon enough.Dhoni too is a LOI specialist....That's 3 players right there. Jaddu,Ashwin-Enough said the 2 proper batsman we have Gambhir,Kohli are pathetically out of form Ashwin,Jaddu-Enough said Rahane/Pujara-Still new at this level Sorry to say but our ODI batting glory days are over...there might be a flash in the pan performance from Dhoni,Yuvi,Raina but our batting which was our strength doesn't look good enough anymore. Marut
The problem is to find 11 of them. Presently we are struggling to find 6 good ones. We need to go the English way - get imports. That is how pitiable we are.:(( Link to comment

Some middle order weakness we can put up with. The main reason why India was a good ODI side was due to the powerful starts given by Sachin-Ganguly and Sachin-Sehwag. If we can find reliable openers then we can become a good batting side in ODIs again. The Rainas and Yuvis do much better when we have a solid opening pair. Yuvraj and Raina will do well if they comes to bat after the 20th over, the opening weakness often brings them to the crease before the 10th over. Ideally, if they had adapted to face those early overs, we would still be a decent team, but I dont think these two will ever adapt. Link to comment

Australia has Clarke and til recently Hussey in the middle order and when they play Watson and Warner in the line up they seem really strong no matter how many new bowlers they try. South Africa has Smith,ABDe,Amla all proper batsman We are stuck with too many LOI specialists Link to comment
yoda
I dont think anyone is asking him to be back. But it will be foolish to deny that the retirement of one of the best batsmen in ODIs will not make any difference He was one of the best when he retired? Dude, his best performance in the last 12 months was a slow ass century against the mighty banglas which cost us a victory. :winky: Link to comment

Lord
drop Ishant n bring in Pujara.dont need 3 seamers against England Link to comment
King Khan
I got no confidence with all these (playing & benched) pace unit. Ishant should be doing good (theory of in-form), what he was doin few days back against Pakistan. But these flat pitches are curse for these unfortunate bowlers. Concentraton should be more with the inconsistant batting lineup that failed in chasing recently, which is used to be unlikely for India. Link to comment
express bowling
He will still play a good knock once in a while, but the consistency is gone. Often, he is playing slower than the occasion demands. Link to comment
