ganeshran Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Most teams have started restructuring keeping the 2015 WC in mind. India will have to do so now too, if we want the side to be settled by then. Do you guys think Dhoni should be allowed to remain captain till 2015? If not, who should be the captain and when should the transition be made?
ganeshran Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 yes' date='if he quits Tests n T20s[/quote'] Two major whitewashes in England/Australia and one test series defeat at home. If this hasnt made him quit, I don't see how the result of any other series is going to change his mind. I think he will quit just before the Saffer tour in November, making the transition extremely difficult.
saneindian Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Ideally no, his totally defensive mindset is already hurting the side. But then the contenders have to perform to give the selectors the options. Doesn't help that a potential captain like Kohli has suddenly lost form across formats in the last 3-4 months and Gambhir has developed major technical flaws and a mental block in his approach to batting.
ganeshran Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Even his keeping has taken a turn for the worse. He was never considered a spectacular keeper but one who held on to chances and didnt give away too many byes. Dropped a crucial catch today because he was moving the wrong way.

ganeshran Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 I meant no' date=' he shouldn't be captaining this team and focus just on his batting and keeping.[/quote'] In ODIs he will make the team for his batting and keeping alone. But what about tests. Does a non skipper Dhoni merit a place in the side? Or will he get in because of lack of competition? The only serious competition for Dhoni right now is Saha. All others are over the hill and too inexperienced

Lord Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Ideally a non-skipper shouldn't get a free ride in tests' date=' but other keepers have to prove that they are better.[/quote'] they need to be given the chance to do that.doing well in FCs
Trichromatic Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 they need to be given the chance to do that.doing well in FCs Yes, I think he should stop wicketkeeping at least in ODIs. He can easily get a place in the team as an ODI batsman. Other wicketkeepers should start getting more chances in ODIs. Then after some time, they can be drafted into the test side with rotation policy for wk.
Magneto Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Pujara should be the captain in both formats (I don't care who becomes T20I captain) six months from now. Ideal guy to captain India in the 2015 WC.

Magneto Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Two Pakistanis have voted for Dhoni for obvious reasons. :hitler:
