Deserved a longer rope IMO especially when the likes of Yuvraj , Raina have played 20+ tests. Anyways his time is over now. but his batting has never convinced he can play a half decent pacer.

Based on his FC career he deserved a longer run. 2 tests and 7 ODIs spread across 2-3 series is not what you give to someone who was piling on the runs season after season.

Because he doesn't have flowing game like Yuvraj Singh and Raina ? :giggle: He has even smacked bowlers around in IPL now including Steyn, Lee A and what not in a unsuited format and done everything asked of him in FC cricket and India A tours. He made a battling 50 and was 2nd highest scorer iirc in helpful conditions where everyone was crumbling to a Red hot steyn and was dropped 2 matches later because he didn't look good in ODI's which wasn't his format anyway.

Frankly, though Badrinath's high elbow is great technique and his footwork is great. It's just that he is not a imposing batsman and plays inside the line which doesn't look good.

saneindian Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 He's lost his form this season. Scored runs onl on flat pattas where 500 each innings was the norm. Hasn't been fit either and missed 3-4 matches.
Cevno Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Badri averaged 50 even this season, btw despite being injured for a few matches. He has probably lost interest and hope now and hence doing poorly by his standards for the last 2 seasons.

He is always harshly judged based on that SA series- yes he was not convincing but no one is against Dale Steyn and he still scored 50.

Should have gotten way more go's in tests. And even in ODI's he got 7 games in lower middle order all away.

(Mukund should go any which way, since a lot of time has been invested on him and a few failed Ranji games should not take that away from him. He did score a fluent 70+ against England in the tour game, and surely belongs to this level). Looking at the options, Jiwanjot has done much better, and will probably be selected ... but I won't be surprised if he does badly and ends up having a terrible 2nd season at the Ranjis. Fair point - Jiwanjot did not score all his 995 runs through luck. He has a great temperament and knows how to hang on to the wicket despite getting beaten and being constantly troubled. But he has obvious weaknesses against the short ball and looked equally unsure against spin. (Read the cricinfo commentary for the match if you have some time - you'll see how many times he got beaten and looked quite mediocre overall). One thing about media reports are - when a young cricketer does well, the media usually big them up and report in glowing terms about their success. They'll seldom tell you that 'X poked and stuttered his away through for a 100', 'Or Y trundled and got a 5er because he got lucky'. It's difficult to understand the potential of a cricketer going by media reports alone. He can still be taken to the SA-tour though, and he might come back with greater experience. Like it happened with an ex-India cricketer, he was plundering runs in Ranji, got selected for an India tour overseas, did miserably in it throughout, came back and whispered in select circles - 'I could never see the ball, how can I bat well', and then went overseas to work on his technique, started seeing the ball and eventually made a great debut.

A lot is being made of jiwanjots knock in semi. But it is possible he just had a bad game:--D Maybe for some reason the feet were not moving that day, can happen to the best. He has scored a lot of runs this season, so am hopeful it was just one bad game
