Dhoni - 117 runs to 4000 Test runs. Kohli - 109 runs to 1000 Test runs. Pujara - 239 runs to 1000 Test runs. Pragyan Ojha - 5 wickets to 100 Test wickets. Ishant Sharma - 13 wickets to 150 Test wickets. Not sure about the others, but - Ishant Sharma - 13 wickets to 150 Test wickets will have to maybe wait a couple more series. It has taken him an eternity to reach 137 wickets.

Vilander Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I would probably go with Vijay, only because he scored a ton in the Irani trophy and he has some experience in Tests (incl. success against Australia). I think technique-wise Rahane is probably a stronger player but for whatever reason he is struggling as an opener when given the chance, and he seems down on confidence. I feel that Rahane may miss out because the number 6 spot is going to go to Dhoni with Jadeja at 7. I think better options would be: 1) Play Rahane or even Dhawan at 6 2) Play Dhoni at 6 and pick Ashwin at 7 as the bowling-all rounder and then play 3 spinners. I think Ashwin, Harbhajan and Ojha are the best spin bowling combination out of the squad selected. Option No.2 is my preferred option. Ashwin will fail miserably the day he is called a batsman.

Not mediocre at all.

Jaffer's technique has always been poor, if he'd have been picked. He would have been a short term option for home tests alone. And given our next assignments are 2 away tours to SA and NZ. It was wise to give Dhawan a chance.

StatsRock Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 After a run of 32, 53, 202, 56 against Pakistan, Jaffer came up with 17, 18,4,15,3,0,16,11,73,9,19,15,10 vs Aus/SA in the 2007-08 season. Basically 210 runs in his last 13 Test innings @ 16.15, 12 scores under 20. This is what keeps the selectors from looking at Jaffer.

Honestly if pitch turns out to be like the ones in practice games. India should easily dispose of this line up. They're too pace heavy for a turner.
