SLICKR392 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Do you know to read & write your own language? I don't & I'm sad and embarrassed to say that. My granddad was a well know cartoonist and writer in Malayalam and I feel really embarrassed that I can't read his books or cartoons. I never had a chance to learn it due to various circumstances and learning such a tough language now takes a hell lot of time. Have caught up with it as much as I could in my spare time. On the other side, I've seen and heard a lot of people who feel ashamed to accept that they can read and write their respective language just because they state it as a "cool" act. Wonder how many here are educated in their own language? I knew Texy is. :winky:
Debutant Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Studied in CBSE but when I was in class 7 my parents made me to learn Oriya. I can read very well :proud: but have to admit that writing is little difficult but I can write a line or two in Oriya :proud:
ganeshran Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I can read and write Tamil but I'm not very good at it since I studied Hindi most of my school life. My mom/dad gave up trying to teach me, but I finally learnt it on my own in college.
nikred Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I suck at telugu (both reading and writing). When I was in school, my family used to eagerly wait for me to bring home the mid-term exam papers. They used to sit down and read my telugu paper and laugh at it. :((

We had oriya in D.A.V till Class 7 and after that we had to choose one from hindi,sanskrit,oriya. even though i was not great in oriya i got 85 in boards in class 10 and my parents who studied in oriya school were surprised i got so much marks in oriya . I studied in Green Field School in Keonjhar. We had Hindi till 7th and then Oriya, Hindi or Sanskrit. I took Sanskrit to get some easy marks :--D

That's my case. I've been in and away from India but I've rarely lived in my native.
