Yes that at the cost of the team - He was being very selfish. Even I had thoughts similar to you but seeing his attitude I dont want him anywhere near captaincy.
Yeah his knock seemed selfish in mumbai but everybody is selfish And that pitch was difficult to accelerate .

Another option is split captaincy. Someone new could take over in Tests while Dhoni leads ODIs and T20s. In the shorter forms of the game, Dhoni is a very good player and his captaincy is better suited to those forms. It's a different style of thinking, unprecedented yes ... but who cares! Right now we're losing everything and we can't expect things to change unless we do something different.

Fine. It doesn't have to be Kohli specifically. I think we should just simplify the problem. The first question we should ask is: What is the best XI test team in India right now? Once you've done that, then say ... Who is best suited to captain that side. Michael Clarke's test form was pretty hopeless too before he became captain.
If Dhoni is the impediment to selecting the best X1 test team (read as CSK/Rhiti influence), then would you want Dhoni in the test team? Anyway Dhoni is not the best test wicketkeeper batsman in the country.. There are several contenders for that.

*Dhoni style* Well of course I'm speaking assuming the selectors are unbiased and not influenced by outside factors.

A few talents doesn't make a No.1 side. We need a whole team playing well together led by a good captain.
We cannot help if only a few talents are coming through. A lot more may come through in the future, but you never know. Right now, being a competitive team is what matters, No.1 is a thing of the distant future.

Split captaincy will not work in India especially when you have players overlapping across formats. For Kohli / Gambhir to be test captains, Dhoni will have to be kicked out of the test side. Not sure if this can be done now.

But anyways who is Dravid to give his opinion when our in-house ICF experts have decided Dhoni should be sacked in all 3 formats?
:agree: Dravid is just another biased BCCI employee.

One thing that did not make sense is that Dravid wants MS to give up captaincy by 2014. Wouldn't that risk a new captain leading into the WC?
If dhoni is captain in tests in all formats till 2014 .There would be no need to appoint kohli as captain as he would have been dropped by then .

And why is that?
Because team will be full of rhiti sports guys by then .If a moron captain is not dropped after whitewash in eng,aus tests 4-0 in odis in eng, could not make cbseries finals ,asia cup finals ,loss at home to eng inh tests, pak loss . He will not like any body taking over his captaincy.

Had that been the case, Kohli would have been dropped post the Sydney test and a rhiti guy would have been drafted in. Kohli has been playing since 2009 and it's since the last 1 year that he has joined the big league. Don't be so cynical about everything!

Bloody Hell.. Two white washes, Rout at Home, plethora of allegations like buying of MoM, corruption and still somebody wants Dhoni to continue as captain in all formats. I would rather give Dravid a Second wind as Captain (along with Batsman) then this cool dude.

The selectors know that the day Dhoni is sacked citing non performance, they would have to say good bye to other non performers in the test side as well. No wonder non performers have been given a long rope across the board be it Sehwag, Gambhir, Sachin or earlier Dravid as batsmen, Bhajji as a bowler or now Dhoni as a captain.

I think we could run into problems if we overcomplicate the captaincy decision. Just pick your best XI players and of those XI, pick the best person to lead that team. To me that does 2 things: 1) Simplifies the selection process. Selectors just have to pick the best XI players. 2) Indicates to the captain that first and foremost he has to be one of the best XI players, and can't rely on the fact that he's the captain of the side. Problems start arising and have arisen in the past when we select a captain with a vision that he's going to lead the side for 5+ years, because a captain could start believing that he is indispensable. While that may happen, we shouldn't expect that. For all we know Kohli could end up being the next Graeme Smith. Kohli has played 14 tests and 93 ODIs. Kohli is 24 years old. He's played in South Africa, Australia, England, West Indies and countries within the subcontinent. He's been part of a successful World Cup campaign. In contrast, Graeme Smith was 22 years old when he took over the captaincy and had played 8 Tests and 22 ODIs.
