Kerala also comes into the picture and will be part of the UDF.

Patil Nadahalli openly accused Siddaramaiah of ignoring North Karnataka while allocating funds in the Karnataka State Budget 2015-16 for irrigation projects and agricultural development work. BJP legislators from North Karnataka too have joined the chorus calling for a separate state. “The Congress government has always neglected North Karnataka. Bifurcating it into two states is the only way forward,” lamented former minister and BJP leader Umesh V. Katti. The demand for a separate statehood for North Karnataka came alive after the chief minister recommended south Karnataka cities, which also included his hometown Mysuru, as possible locations for setting up an IIT in the state. “Siddaramaiah has always adopted anti-North Karnataka stand. What stopped him from recommending Belagavi (Belgaum) for IIT? This is further alienating us from south Karnataka,” remarked Prabhakar Kore. Belagavi is the educational hub of North Karnataka and already as an ecosystem for a premier institute, such as IIT. this has shades of Andhra Pradesh.... they need to nip this in the bud. Won't be surprised if CPM and Left make strong gains in Kerala on the back of recent scandals in Kerala related to Congress and UDF.
G_B_ Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 as i said, the last time Kerala voted back a government was in like the 1980s. People regularly flip governments. Yechury as a leader is much more politically capable and savy than Karat. Karat was too ideologically driven with 0 practicality. The problem for Yechury is that the CPM is in a case of a bad rot. WB might be a generational rebuild but Kerala LDF have a chance provided they control the factionalism. I think you will see a low intensity and door to door campaign from the cadres of the LDF with mass contact. Its how Yechury functions. Organisation over media hogging rallies. The problem the congress faces is that its being hemmed in from all sides. BJP has the development mandate (as of now atleast) nationally. While regional parties are packaging the same thing as the congress (secular pro farmer etc) and have more able leaders than RaGa who are more in tune for the local needs. I keep banging on about this but Andhra Pradesh (united) was an own goal from the Congress and the BJP had nothing to do with their downfall in the state. While it would not have changed the net outcome of the general elections (as BJP got only 3 seats from the combined state) it could have been a government the congress clung onto and regrouped. Somebody like KCR played the congress for chumps in Telagana and they totally misjudged the mood in Andhra Pradesh.

someone Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 The recent opinion polls would not be liked by Congress at all. Almost all of them had Kejriwal as 2nd choice for PM while RaGa got lower rank. And Modi still got a thumping majority in all the polls. So what happened to RaGa V.2?? Imo, RaGa is playing a typical opposition role. He will go to a business event and say Modi is anti-business. And then with farmers, he will say Modi is anti-farmer. That doesn't work well in long term really.

He took the decision as he was "humiliated" in the party since 1999, the former union minister and nine-time Congress MP from Koraput Lok Sabha constituency said in his resignation faxed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Though he maintained that he would not join any other party, his son hinted that both would join a national political party soon. "I announce my resignation from the primary membership of the Congress with immediate effect. I have taken the decision as I have been thoroughly humiliated by the party leadership who have insulted me," he told media persons here. Gamang said that he wanted to be a free man although he had no intenion to quit politics. He also said that he had not quit the Congress to join another party. "I have done nothing wrong. I wanted to be free. There is no question of returning to the Congress once I have taken the decision," the former chief minister said. Giving reasons for his parting of ways with the Congress, he said he was quitting the party since it did not come to his support over his controversial vote against the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in Parliament on April 17, 1999. "Since 1999, I have been humiliated in public for bringing down the Vajpayee government with my vote. Till today, neither any party nor any leaders have come out with the truth and protected me from public criticism. "I feel my loyalty to the party has turned into a liability for the party," Gamang said. The tribal leader said that he had voted against the then BJP-led government in deference to the whip issued by the Congress. Even though he denied joining any political party, his elder son Sisir Gamang hinted that he along with his father would join a national party in the near future. "We will join a national party in the near future. Everything will be clear within four-five days," said Sishir. Giridhar Gamang was the chief minister of Odisha from February 17, 1999 to December 6, 1999. Good to see him taking concrete action. This is exactly the sort of thinking the congress needs. The Congress in Delhi needs a total rebuild. From its image to its ideas. Not sure Maken is the sort of person to be charismatic as Kejriwal but he is showing out of the box thinking. Hopefully for the congress the right people are elected. This may mean fresh faces alongside some known heavyweights. I am sure many of the elected councillors will find their way to tickets to contest for the assembly.

Kamal Nath is far, far more corrupt and is quite arrogant. When results came out he was on every channel indirectly positioning himself for LoP post by saying that he was now the senior most MP in Lok Sabha (he is a 9 time MP I think)......in the end he got nothing and has been totally absent since then. Also, he is not favored by Rahul Gandhi.

Amrindar Singh would have been a really good choice - that way he would have been placated and they would have got a leader in the Lok Sabha who actually commands some respect instead of Khadge who seems like he is asleep all the time. Though Rahul himself should have taken up the post if he really was serious about his job (in fact its not too late even now - he has looked a bit better since coming back from the vacation so he should become leader in Lok Sabha now - but I don't expect it as he has always run away from responsibility and I don't think that has changed).

The problem for the Congress is they dont have much choice out of 44 MP's out of which 2 are Sonia and Rahul. Ashok Chavan- Maha Scindia-MP Amrinder- He wants to be Punjab CM candidate, doubt leader of lok sabha would have placated him These guys are tasked with reviving the fortunes in the states so ruled out Then you have the pincelings who are just setting up shop on their own Gogoi Hooda Then the rest of the remaining are some politically irrelevant northeast states and MP's from Kerala (8) and Karnataka (10) based MP's who struggle with Hindi which is needed as much as i think its unfair. Kamal Nath was the only choice. As you say he not in parliament and undercutting Scindia in MP Regardless of corruption, Kharge really struggles to get his point across.

Most of the 1,600 beneficiaries of the government move are members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) that gained national notoriety five years ago when its alleged activists chopped off a professor’s hand in Kerala for blasphemy. The BJP’s youth wing took out a procession and staged a sit-in outside the deputy police commissioner’s office on Wednesday, though state law minister TB Jaychandra defended the government’s decision. “All the 1,600 persons are not Muslims or members of the PFI. There are many Hindus among them also. Many elderly and immobile people, too, had been falsely accused of rioting,” he said. All these cases were filed between 2009 and 2011 when the BJP was in power in the state. But amid the party’s protests, political observers pointed to the previous government's decision to drop 307 rioting cases against 4,300 activists of hard-line Hindu outfits such as the Bajrang Dal, ABVP and VHP. “After SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) was banned, terrorists formed the PFI. By trying to appease minorities, the Congress government is compromising national security,” said BJP spokesperson CT Ravi who has several hate-speech and rioting cases against his name. “Hindu organisations cannot be compared to outfits like the PFI. We are patriots and they are terror front organisations.” The PFI was born in 2006 through the merger of three Muslim organisations from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, and reportedly has about 80,000 members and sympathisers across India. Analysts say while there is no official record linking the PFI to terror outfits, its participation in communal violence and a raging turf battle with Hindu groups is well documented in the polarised districts of North and Coastal Karnataka. Asked to provide proof of the PFI’s SIMI connections, Ravi said, “It is well known.” Members of the outfit, which was called the Karnataka Forum for Dignity in the state until 2006, have often been accused of carrying out vigilante attacks against Hindu-Muslim couples in Udupi and Mangaluru. “The PFI pretends like its number one enemy is the Sangh, but the fact is that it is equally opposed to secular and progressive thought. The article, a cache version of which is available here, talks about the cutting down of social spending by the Indian government. Under the sub-heading “Welfare to paternalism”, several paragraphs have been directly lifted from another op-ed article written by G Sampath published on May 26, ironically, in The Hindu itself. This is not the only instance, other sentences too seems to have been lifted. He "intervened" at the right moment and forced the stupid Netas of BJP & AAP to go on streets for a cleanliness drive while the HC ordered AAP Govt. to release the salaries.. The workers are now thankful to Rahul baba for supporting their cause and making things happen.. :nice:
