Economically, they are heavily burdened by debt owed to Central. Bengal is the most indebted state in terms of debt to gross state domestic product (GSDP) ratio at close to 40 per cent. And also has the highest interest payment to revenue expenditure (IP-RR), at 20%. Banarjee is begging Central everyday to negotiate change in tenure for interest payments. Trying to get a word out of MMS:hehe: I think the target set for IP-RR is around 15%. Also both Gujarat and Punjab have high IP-RR too, close to 20%.

I would prefer Communists over Mamta any day. At least communists oppose based on their principles or policies which are often backward. But Mamta tries to be stubborn and oppose everything just for the sake of it.

Yes, the people of Bengal have been experiencing the fruits of a capitalistic govt since the second when Mamta got elected. Jobs are plentiful, roads are impeccable, trains are on time, education is free etc..Lol Fact of the matter is, it has probably made ZERO difference from a policy perspective. If anything, Mamta is probably more populist in certain aspects than her leftie predecessors.

Worse in some respects (gets a professor arrested for a cartoon, considers an abuse/rape as a conspiracy) and similar in others (economic laggard). I would think things are as bad or worse but residents could correct me.
