BeCautious: "If you don't go just by stats and look at the skill level as well, I feel that the best reserve batsman after Ajinkya Rahane is Mandeep Singh. He seems to have a lot of time against seamers and is good on the backfoot. Not sure how good he's against swing and spin though. Might need one more first class season and few A tours.."
Rags: "Problem is that with scratching around Tiwary might still get a 60 or maybe more because of the lack of pressure bowling from both ends, & suddenly he will be a Test prospect, only to be ruthlessly exposed at that level.."

32.2 Nayar to Tiwary, no run, nearly gone again. Nayar is toying around with Tiwary. After bowling inswingers he bowls one that holds its line outside off. There is no need to play at it, but Tiwary is dancing to Nayar's tune, and pokes at it tamely. Beaten

Best bet after Rahane in the middle order is still Rohit. Mandeep Singh has a dodgy attacking batsman technique from what i have seen. I'll have Manish Pandey ahead of him right now unless he has improved. Rayudu will be a decent bet too after Rahane and Rohit. Badrinath is the best call actually still probably, but he won't get selected and is in poor form.

after rahane rayadu should be in cos he has dealed in tougher conditions better than rohit and rahane
Mumbai attack is crap.Rahane has done much better imo

Rohit Sharma has more than average time to play the quicks, pulls well, plays swing and spin decently. That is the reason why he is considered highly by many in the cricketing fraternity. His dc record is good too. BUT his problem is his casual attitude. He simply does not understand the gravity of the situations and flounders the many chances that he gets. I would still like to see what he does in test matches. Rayudu s another batsman who gets enough time to play pace and it is high time he comes into the scheme of things. Raina, Tiwary are not good enough at the present moment.

Irani trophy has been one of the premiere match that is used to select national players. Dilip verngsarkar, Kumble and few other players found a place in the side after Irani cup performances. Rohit does not have the tightest technique out there. His talent is primarily judged by each with which executes his shots including airy fairy shots. He is not exactly judged by how he leaves the ball with precision or defends the ball with bad-pad close together or for his carpet drives or great shot selection. In essence he lacks so many things to be a successful Test batsman. Yet somehow he is able to mask all these deficiencies with shots full of flair in one or two occasional innings. Hence all the hype. Sooner we realize is the better.
Yes. He failed on the last A tour for the same reasons. His flashy strokes create the impression that he has a big technique. Rohit will succeed against lesser attacks, but he will fail against decent bowling sides that will be eager to exploit his bat-pad gap and reckless adventerous drives. When Rohit comes on his own, he does appear to be very gifted and having much time to play his strokes, but if you probe deeper he has plenty of holes to fill to be a successful test player.

rayadu is improving but tiwary for some reason is playing for draw?
They all are playing for that #6 position, win or loss does not matter here for them. They do not want to get out.

Tiwary gets all his runs like this where ever he plays by scratching and looking tentative.

Hope' date=' they dont pick Raina based on this and forget his last consistent failures in tests. Rahane and Rayudu should be picked.[/quote'] agree they both looked the best rahane was unlucky to get out and rayadu just looks very solid
