Dumbbells Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 South Africa has already made the u19 captain De kock to open their batting line up. Why not try it with Unmukt chand? Ian chappel was mighty impressed with this lad and asked Indian selectors to select him for ODIs. I think we are wasting time. This is my another prediction like Shammi ahmed here. I am gonna say, this lad is gonna be a very successful ODI batsman in future. Selectors should pick him for the next series.
jf1gp_1 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 i would choose gambhir batting right handed over unmukt ; he is not ready its as simple as that
Dumbbells Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 Ian chappel on Unmukt chand. Chand is in the India ‘A’ side which is not a bad progression, but I’d be fast tracking him towards international level otherwise you are going to leave him too long at a lower level. http://www.mid-day.com/sports/2012/aug/270812-Ian-Chappell-pulls-out-praise-brush-for-U-19-skipper-Unmukt-Chand.htm
Dumbbells Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 Wasim akram on Unmukt chand: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram on Sunday lavished praise on India U-19 skipper Unmukt Chand for guiding his team to its third World Cup title and said the opener is ready to play for the senior side. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-08-26/2012-u-19-cricket-world-cup/33403124_1_wasim-akram-unmukt-chand-indian-selectors
Dumbbells Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 I would rather take Ian Chappel and Wasim akram's views I guess.
jairamesh Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 De kock has backed his selection with an excellent First Class record over last 3 years. Chand hasn't really done much in two Ranji seasons now.
ExpressPace Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I think he is the next Kholi, amazing talent so ship him into senior side asap!
Vivek.S.123 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Why are all the talented openers from Delhi? (Gambhir, Sehwag, Dhawan, Chand) :P
sreej Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Everyone clamoring for Chand to be in the national squad needs to take a look at his performance in Ranji. He hasn't really set the world alight. I remember being just as excited about Shikhar Dhawan when he was an U-19 player. Give Chand time. He'll make it to the top in a few years
1983-2011 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 chand averages 39 after 36 innings in first class cricket and 29 after 16 innings in one day cricket and everyone wants him to play international cricket :giggle:
Precambrian Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 De kock has backed his selection with an excellent First Class record over last 3 years. Chand hasn't really done much in two Ranji seasons now. This... De **** averages 59 whereas Chand 39 on patta Indian pitches. Ability to play short pitched stuff that too from u-19, half grown fast bowlers on hard Australian pitches isn't the only criteria to determine ability. Unmukt, like any other batsman is going to play about 60-70% of his cricket on subcontinent pitches.
The Outsider Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Haven't watched De Kock bat, but there are two FC leagues in SA and De Kock has played all his cricket in the lower division, so take his average with a pinch of salt.

And his team the Lions is leading. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/batting/most_runs_career.html?id=7535;type=tournament He's also leading the averages. Interestingly just 3 players are averaging over 50 in the current season and his strike rate of 80 just adds to the glitter. Very interesting.

Did not know he was playing in the main league this year. Thought he was still in the lower rung league. That's definitely very impressive.
rkt.india Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 dekock is South Africas Parthiv Patel..similar style of batting, similar shots.
Sidhoni Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Anyone but Gambhir. Dhawan won't be a bad choice either.
