Vivek.S.123 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Will he play in the Champions Trophy and other ODI series after that? :dontknow:
NareshK Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 If he does well in tests, he should also be back for ODIs.
yoda Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 He should just retire from ODIs. Time to move on.
Lord Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 no,but he should come back.hes still a much better option than Rahane,Rohit and even Gambhir
Cevno Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 He can **** right off from all forms of the game, with the way his form has been in the 2 years + his attitude. Till and if it improves. He should retire from ODI's anyway tbh, as that was his weaker game.
Trichromatic Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Sehwag would have been good option with a strong middle order, but the way our top 4 have been performing I don't think he would be good for the team. He needs to find test form first.
NareshK Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 He should retire from ODI's anyway tbh, as that was his weaker game. Average of 35+ and a strike rate of 104 is weaker game ? What a joke. He is one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket. He has that fear factor for opposition bowlers and they will be under pressure when they bowl to him because they know even if they are a little off target they will be punished. He usually gives blazing starts for the team and puts the opposition in defensive right away. Remember 2011 WC SF. Only problem is his fitness and reflexes because he is 34 but if he proves he is still good enough at the test level which is the highest form of the game and can still score runs, he can walk into the ODI side.

Number Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Chuck Dhoni out of tests and Sehwag out of ODIs and let them captain their teams.

Average of 35 does not make you a good ODI opener. Sehwag (in ODIs) is like those batteries you buy from chor bazaar - chala toh chala nahi toh gaya.
Cevno Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Rohit' date='Gambhir arent any better either.Rahane looks fidgety too[/quote'] Then play Pujara, no ? Gambhir is slightly better, and Rahane deserves more go. Plus there are others like Jadhav/Mukund/Dhawan/Jaggi etc.. who can be given a chance. Why go back to out of sorts Sehwag ? It's not like he hasn't gotten 2 years to come back to form.

Yep. In this era yes. Tests was his stronger format, so ODI's becomes his weaker format ? Basic logic. You disagree ? :giggle: And Bro, WC 2011 was 2 years ago. Might as well bring Sachin back from retirement for the same Semi-final.

Sehwag (in ODIs) is like those batteries you buy from chor bazaar - chala toh chala nahi toh gaya. You are expecting his replacement to have an average of 60 ?:hysterical: Average of 35 at strike rate of 104 is gold in ODI cricket. Yuvraj Singh, Raina have almost same averages with less strike rate. Would you drop them ?

It's comments like these which make me think Indian fans dont know the true worth of the players in their team.
Cevno Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Yuvraj and Raina 1)Bat lower down the order and have a finishers role many time 2) They are good fielders.Raina is very good 3)They both contribute with the ball. Especially Yuvraj has been very good with the ball for the past 2 years. 4) They are in good form. Not out of form for 2 years.

It's not like he hasn't gotten 2 years to come back to form. how is Gambhir better?he pokes around n never looks good, even on his day.makes the pitch look tougher than it is too.Sehwag atleast can take the game away with his cameos n take the pressure of MO,on his day.if he gets out he doesnt waste much deliveries unlike Gambhir Rahane deserves chances I agree, but tbh, doesnt look a ODI player Sehwag was great in 2011.only 2012 has been bad.dunno what 2 years you are talking about. I would hv Pujara and Sehwag as openers.Pujara to provide solidity n bat through the innings and Sehwag to get fast start in PPs.
NareshK Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 It's criminal to compare Sehwag with Sachin. Bring him back ? When did I compare Sehwag with Sachin ? Sachin will be 40 in a couple of months. How long can he continue ? He doesnt play most ODIs anyway. So its better to groom a youngster. Sehwag still has a good couple of years in him if he improves his fitness and scores consistently again. He scored a double ton only in 2011. He is one of the best batsman of short pitch bowling and pace bowling in the team.

Let him go to Vijay Hazare trophy and prove his worth right now.
