NareshK Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Exactly why Sehwag should be dropped from ODIs. Huh ? Doesnt make any sense. Less strike rate doesnt mean they are slow. Their strike rate is close to 90. You are not going to get an opener like Sehwag even if you search for 10 years. He is one of a kind.
BeautifulGame Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 It s all good quoting his ave and SR but they are mostly boosted by performances in Asia and NZL. Playing Sehwag as an opener in Aus will be suicidal. He will be a walking wkt against any team that has a left arm seamer
Cevno Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 how is Gambhir better?he pokes around n never looks good, even on his day.makes the pitch look tougher than it is too.Sehwag atleast can take the game away with his cameos n take the pressure of MO,on his day.if he gets out he doesnt waste much deliveries unlike Gambhir Gambhir at least can score some runs even out form. Sehwag is all or nothing. And he has hardly done anything for 1 and half years. Look at Gambhir's average for 2012. Big difference. Why drop the player who is doing better, just because he doesn't look good ? That's bullshit. He can bat upside down twisting one leg as long as he puts runs onto the scoreboard. Rahane deserves chances I agree, but tbh, doesnt look a ODI player Sehwag was great in 2011.only 2012 has been bad.dunno what 2 years you are talking about. I would hv Pujara and Sehwag as openers.Pujara to provide solidity n bat through the innings and Sehwag to get fast start in PPs. So you won't drop Sehwag despite failing since the 2011 world cup, but you would drop Gambhir for failing in 2 series ? Good logic that and completely unbiased. I think both should be dropped as i have said before. Try others out.

He drops catches and laughs, says all kinds of sensationalist things in press conference, doesn't get on with the captain and has a big ego too. Plus is a poor poor fielder and barely bowls in ODI's.

Playing Sehwag as an opener in Aus will be suicidal. He will be a walking wkt against any team that has a left arm seamer Pitches in Australia are also very good for batting especially in ODIs. Sehwag especially likes playing pace bowling, he has experience and scores runs at a very fast clip. We dont want an opener who cant make the most of good batting conditions. Sehwag in the side is crucial for India's plans for 2015 WC. I wish he works on his fitness and gets more serious about scoring runs consistently again.
saket123 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I think it is foolish to shut the doors to ANY player permanently. As long as they are physically fit... the door should be open for anybody and everybody who can play cricket. If you don't perform consistently for a while.. (like Sehwag).. then you get dropped and put to play at FC level and earn your way back. It should be as simple as that. No need for anyone to retire. You don't perform for a while.. you take a while to get back into the team after proving yourself.

So on he isn't crucial to our plans. And with 2 new balls aiding more swing Aus pitches changing nature he is simply not good enough

He averages 22 at a strike rate of 90 in Australia in 20 ODI's. Compared to this in 17 ODI's Gambhir Averages 50 at a strike rate of 83. And that was back when both were in good form. :giggle:

And with 2 new balls aiding more swing Aus pitches changing nature he is simply not good enough What makes you think any of the young Indian batsmen are any good at playing swing bowling better ? None of them have experience playing bowlers bowling 140+ when there is bounce and movement, even if these are the conditions that are presented in Australia in WC( which I very much doubt). In any case, Sehwag is all about hand and eye co-ordination. In a low scoring game dominated by bowlers, he can make the big difference by cracking a 50 ball 70 and put the bowlers under pressure which could prove decisive. He has done this many times before. In conditions where most batsmen struggle, he would usually score run a ball. This is his genius.

Cevno Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 He also scored 195 there where most Indian batsmen struggled. In tests.
BeautifulGame Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 He also scored 195 there where most Indian batsmen struggled. Then we can pick him when we play a test championship in Australia not for ODIS where he is horrible
NareshK Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 In tests. Yup. Its tougher to score runs in tests than ODIs. If he did well in the highest form, he can do it in ODIs too.
Lord Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Gambhir at least can score some runs even out form. Sehwag is all or nothing. And he has hardly done anything for 1 and half years. He can bat upside down twisting one leg as long as he puts runs onto the scoreboard. Gambhir only pokes around scoring off edges n soon gets out.Its clear he wont last long even before he walks in to bat. Gambhir has scored most of his runs in 2012 against Lankans.otherwise hes pathetic.he needs to sort out his technical issues before coming back. also, you are ignoring one important thing.STRIKE RATE.You dont want GG to score slow 30-40s.that helps none.u either score fast or score big and hes doing neither.has been pathetic in last few games. So you won't drop Sehwag despite failing since the 2011 world cup, but you would drop Gambhir for failing in 2 series ? Good logic that and completely unbiased. I think both should be dropped as i have said before. Try others out. BS.Sehwag has only sucked in CB series and recent Pak series in which he got 2 games.otherwise hes been decent Gambhir has technical issues.getting out same way.Sehwag is okay and has a reflex problem.I think he has a better chance of coming back then GG as he doesnt have technical issues
Lord Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Plus to add to this his attitude stinks. He drops catches and laughs, says all kinds of sensationalist things in press conference, doesn't get on with the captain and has a big ego too. Plus is a poor poor fielder and barely bowls in ODI's. hes a decent bowling option, better than Raina imo.also hes taken some good catches recently, ofcourse dropping dollies too.its in slips where he struggles, but we have Ashwin there now about his attitude,he always used to laugh n joke around.its actually considered his strength.why should he change now GG has said more things about captaincy then Sehwag imo

Picking out 1 performance in a different format like so many years ago to Justify his inclusion in ODI's right now.
Marut Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Yup. Its tougher to score runs in tests than ODIs. If he did well in the highest form' date=' he can do it in ODIs too.[/quote'] Not necessarily. Dravid and Laxman were exceptional test batsmen, but they were never that good in ODIs.
NareshK Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 You are clutching at straws now. Picking out 1 performance in a different format like so many years ago to Justify his inclusion in ODI's right now. I said if he does well in next test series, he should be back. Because I believe if a batsman does well in tests which is the toughest challenge, he can easily do well in ODIs especially someone like Sehwag. There is no question of his ability but more of his current form and if he can still perform consistently at the international level as he is getting older.
NareshK Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Not necessarily. Dravid and Laxman were exceptional test batsmen' date=' but they were never that good in ODIs.[/quote'] You are comparing Laxman and Sehwag ? They are totally different batsmen. Sehwag has a SR of 104 in ODIs. Laxman never had the game for ODIs. Sehwag does.
The Outsider Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Average of 35 does not make you a good ODI opener. Sehwag (in ODIs) is like those batteries you buy from chor bazaar - chala toh chala nahi toh gaya. Gibbs, Jayasuriya, Gilchrist were not good openers?
