In this Test match, Dhoni the captain has again showed us that his personal preferences go a long way in selecting the test team and merit counts for little. Ajinkya Rahane has now been part of countless Test match squads and he is yet to get a game. I cannot imagine how demoralizing he must be feeling seeing player after player earn an India cap and many players make comebacks while he keeps warming the bench. At least give him ONE freaking chance!!!

The only person he can play against currently is Harbhajan Singh and I guess that is the right balance for the team. The problem is that our fast bowler Ishant Sharma is so weak that we need some sort of backup. Since, batting is our forte we take the risk of playing one less batsman and Rahane missed out. I know he is not an opener, but he has opened in the past for Mumbai. Besides, he opens in one-dayers for India. This is not just with reference to the current Test match. For far too long, Dhoni had made Rahane sit on the bench while giving preference to other cricketers who came to the squad after Rahane. I think he is getting some unfair treatment from Dhoni. He should be in the playing 11 by now.

I know this comparison is apples to oranges since Kumar is a bowler and Rahane is a batsman. But, Vijay also gets back into the squad and immediately makes the playing 11, while Rahane keeps missing out.

Absolutely stupid to compare Rahane's Test debut with B Kumar's Test debut timeline! He should be in the playing XI but against Harbhajan Singh PERIOD. Vijay is an opener and hence gets a look into the opening slot.

Vijay is a natural opener , he opens for CSK too, has a 100 against Aus in the last test of last series in 2010. We need to give him a full series and he will probably score a 100 in the last test of this series too.

No, he is not in FC. He does slog but not like the way we see him in the IPL and on the other Rohit gives away his wicket easily.
