He played a great knock, but IMO a fighting match saving knock, irrespective of the situation, can never be better than a match winning knock. Overall though, the consistency with which Prior plays such important knocks for his side, won't be long before he surpasses as the best keeper-batsman despite not having as many 100s as Gilchrist.

does not matter, we did not lose in the end. GG's knock was better than prior..though both were flat pitches. Most NZ pitches get better for batting as the match progresses. In NZ, first innings scores are always more valuable than 2nd innings.

It is definitely better than 224. He converted a confirmed defeat in a draw with a resolute innings. Yes, it was an innings like Gambhir played 3-4 years ago. But Prior is known for such knocks. Definitely best WK-Batsmen, though will be challenged by ABDV wheh he plays some of his better innings after assuming responsibility of wicket keeping.

but it was a super flat track. People were already expecting it to be a draw since yesterday. People are just overreacting. Bell and Broad both played as good an innings as Prior. Bell's was more important inning than Prior for me because he played the most number of balls.

Are you guys seriously rating Prior knock on a 5th day innings fighting to save the match below Dhoni's flash in the pan 224. I dont even see the comparison. Over the last 2 years and even before that, Prior has proved that he is far better than Dhoni in test cricket. He has played knocks in difficult conditions and saved matches for the team. Dhoni on the other hand goes AWOL on the slightest hint of lateral movement.

That 224 is a useless knock cos Dhoni played it. bet you had it been played by any other keeper, any comparisons with Prior's knock would have been laughed off. Some people have had a lot of disappointments in the last 3-4 weeks, their frustration is understandable.

huh?knocks when you can't win require very different temperament and I rate that.whats the problem?I already said GG and Dhoni's knock at Lords were very close To be clear,I'd say I rate this innings higher than Dhawan's knock and Vijay's twin tons.that just me I rate Dravid slightly higher than SRT as Test batsman for same reason too

The shot making in the Chennai knock was imperious and enjoyable to watch, but Prior's knock was better because it was played under immense pressure on a 5th day pitch fighting to save the match. It was a gritty test match innings and I would rate it higher than Dhoni's 224 anyday. Prior's past record also comes into play, it is not a once in a blue moon innings. He has regularly played such innings in the last 2-3 years.
