i dont think we will be number 2 We will be oscillating between 3-5 for the next 2-3 years. Its going to be musical chairs between India-Aus-Pak. These three teams are at the same level and depending on conditions. So you have SA comfortably number 1 England comfortably number 2 with India-Pak-Aus forming a pairing. Sl-WI-NZ forming another pairing.

If this is how things are going to continue, then Cricket will become a dying sport.. heck people are already saying it is. Who would continue to watch a sport where one part of the world totally dominates the other?

On the contrary, the limited overs cricket is what is preventing cricket from dying. There is less dependence on pitches as far as limited overs is concerned and more competition. More people come and watch limited overs whereas the ground is sparsely populated for test matches. There will be much more interest in cricket with the growth of T20 format. Giving tests a holy pedestal or providing it desperate attention is not going to do anything. Test is just another form of cricket, one which is losing spectators. There is a reason why SA swapped Boxing Day tests for Boxing Day T20 and why it was played in a full house. Stop blaming IPL for everything. If players prefer IPL, it is because spectators prefer IPL. And, I can see why they like IPL better than tests, since I am also one of them spectators.

Don't care about the rankings. Just hope we show up in SA and by some miracle win the series Winning maiden series in SA and Aus should be our long term goal, and not Test ranking of 1. If we get #1 ranking, great but we have to break our series ducks in SA and Aus.

It was supposed to tackle the T20 only mindset that the new generation unfortunately has and how the western triumvirate has prioritised Tests over T20. I do not care what spectators prefer as long as the players of the national team show importance to the longest form of cricket. Whether you like it or not, Tests are the true indicator of a true cricketer. While I find T20s as relaxing and fun, they should not be thrusted into a higher pedestal either. I believe that you misinterpreted my post as "T20s and IPL is the sole reason why cricket is dying in India". My post was meant to reason that IPL was and IS a FACTOR in why the newer generation values T20 over Tests. The players have a higher incentive to play in the IPL and prefer it BECAUSE of the huge amounts of money involved. They get paid me than they do playing Tests for India. That is where BCCI becomes the root of the problem. It is prioritising the shortest format of the game to the point where sooner or later, there wont be a proper test team in India. Guys like Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, and yes even Dhoni aspired to represent the country in Tests and ODIs after watching heroes like Gavaskar, Kapil Dev pave the way for cricket in India. Dravid noticed last year when he was meeting with kids, that they cared more about the IPL than they did for Tests, ODIs in general. I actually do not mind watching the IPL as long as country comes first over country. But you do not see T20s being prioritised over Tests in Australia, England, and South Africa do you? While it is true that T20s attracts crowds in those countries, the fans have realized long back that T20 is merely hit and run cricket and should not be preferred over the longest format of the game. Your argument would have been valid had the attendance in South Africa or Australia or England regarding tests dipped. But yet, Boxing Day Tests in Australia are very much cherished and the players yearn to feature in one. While this is not meant to generalize South Africa's overall population, I have a close South African friend on FB who explained to me that Test matches are much more preferred while the shorter formats are not. We can safely say that Tests are where England's preferences lie.

The last thing I want are rehashes of 2011-12 England and Australia tours.
