Vijay Appreciation thread.

Did his job very well until he ran into beastly Morkel who was at his very best. If he had survived that one spell, things would have been much easier. Bottomline is he was not a sitting duck against Steyn as everyone predicted. Actually he played him commendably well. Probably he didn't factor in Morkel who used the two card trick effectively . Hope he gets better.

Its only one innings , so cant make conclusive judgements But based purely on this innings Vijay looks better then dhawan. Dhawan very jumpy today, looked unorganised
Dhawan looked in a hurry and too fidgety for a game happening overseas and that too on South Africa raw turf. Vijay looked like himself, trying to show that he is more at ease than pressure and that is where he gave away his wicket. He should have continued to be normal where he often plays shots instead of trying to put presure on himself. He got it. He just need to realize it.

Last SA one day series he played he had the same weakness' date=' he doesnt have a decent front foot stride when driving the ball and if the ball seams away or in will be gone.[/quote'] That was a sucker ball. He was pushed back and back in that over then bowled that one. Could have happened to lot of batsmen. The thing is Steyn dangled the carrot to him so many times. He left them alone. So we should take heart from that. So now he has one more guy he has to plan against. Not just Steyn and Philander.

I may be wrong but this pitch didnt have the kind of moisture they usually have so there was less seam movement really. The pitch for the first one day game had a lot more than this.

Come on we can't degrade our batsmen by adding all the external elements that help Steyn. It is not like AListair cook would have survived on such surface. Commies said this much. If it were Pakistan players they would have nicked one of those very early. It is the discipline that often lets us down more than the movement itself.

Has a opener you have to be tighter than this.
I would be worried if he had been clueless like ROhit sharma in the one dayers. He was not looking clueless one bit. That is what we have to look at. I have seen guys like WV Raman against Donald. Boy it was comical. How many times he dangled the bat and got beaten? Hardly any except couple of peaches.

I'm not degrading its just he is not technically suited for these conditions as an opener. If he was middle order bat then fine.

Only gripe is he can't rotate strike. But when it comes to leaving he is better than most openers we have in India. If he learns to rotate strike a bit he would not have to get sucked into driving those deliveries. He could just defend like Kohli.

Cant compare with kohli, he is got far more sound technique. Batsmen also get out defending if their feet is not up when defending and the ball can take the edge to slips.
