Crookbond Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Loll u guys r jokes Coming back to the original post, it's funny how back in India, it used to be cool to be called a nerd. Perks of being a 1 ranker were great. You get to be the monitor of class, school n teachers invest in u cuz one day u will be on their newspaper advertisement board, parents would broadcast that their beta is topper hahaha...if u were a nerd, all the uncles/aunties wud whine to their beta/betis to be like u and then u come to NAmerican high schools n universities, where u don't want anyone to see ya grades cuz ppl might start calling u a nerd. U don't talk about studies or any course content after school cuz its uncool Hahaha it's funny how cultures r so different OR are they? It still matters to be in Princeton's, Harvard's and the Stanford's in the US of A.

I did my senior highschooling n undergrad n trust me, u don't want to be labeled as a nerd here. I did my undergrad from rank 1 Eng uni in Canada(can be compared to Princeton), n top rankers wud go to extremes not telling/showing off their grades or even tell lower grades to fit in among average students.
rahulrulezz Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 first para sums up life till class 5th after that is life in high school and nerds are uncool universally but who cares:finger: Don't agree as I did my high schooling till grade 10 in India n have seen it everywhere. And if u r saying that times have changed in India, I don't agree

But getting good marks alone would never put you in the popular crowd at school.

My school was lot different though. It had a good number of stinky rich kids who used to come to school in chaufer driven shiny cars. Now they were the popular kids not the nerdy ones. P.S. Actually the ones in sports were even more popular.

That might have its own advantages but it doesnt translate into populartiy with other students. In fact you are most likely to be teased about it.

Crookbond Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I think xerox has to be given a Bharat Ratna for it's contribution to Indian engineering.
DomainK Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I think xerox has to be given a Bharat Ratna for it's contribution to Indian engineering. Not just Engineering students, that machine is a life save for almost any Indian student.
1983-2011 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I think xerox has to be given a Bharat Ratna for it's contribution to Indian engineering. I always wondered why some people in india called photocopying "xerox" instead of just photocopying.
The Outsider Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I always wondered why some people in india called photocopying "xerox" instead of just photocopying. A case of a noun becoming a verb like saying google instead of searching the web.
