It is a typical Pakistani tactic. Poor governance at home and come election time, they go and shout off the rooftop about muslims being mistreated in Palestine, burma and Kashmir. The first and foremost responsibility of a government is towards its own citizens. There are 14 hours of power cuts a day in Tamlinadu and a shortage of 4500 MW. These are immediate problems that have to be tackled.

Except reports of arresting Indian fishermen, Lanka has not moved against India in any way. Really? I just posted a link in which TN govt submitted a report in HC stating 86 fishermen have been killed in btw 91-2001 alone.And in the last 10 years the attacks only increased. I dont remember Indian Govt even registering a single protest anytime in the past about that. Only recently after all these agitations that Indian govt deemed fit to register a protest against Srl ambasador. As for the underlined part the fishermen are also Indian citizen Their treatment of their Tamil citizens is a concern but the national government should take it to the UN. Tamilnadu is not the thekedaar of Tamil rights all over the world and the government should look to improve governance first before inciting people to protest and threaten violence. It sets a very dangerous precedent which will come back to bite us This i do agree. But fortunately or unfortunately this issue has got mingled with the attack on our fishermen and has helped to gain the attention of the plight of fishermen in the national level.

And where did these attacks occur? I don't condone attacks on fishermen but what was the trigger for the current protests? Except the fact that elections are round the corner

Sonia Gandhi is Rajiv's widow, so her asking for mercy is based on her ideological stance and not support of LTTE. Jaya is the only leader in tamil nadu who actually is against LTTE in Tamil Nadu.She is the only politician who called Prabhakaran a terrorist publicaly.Main reason for that is because she first came to power (1991) accusing Karunanidhi of collaborating with LTTE and Prabhakaran to assasinate Rajiv Gandhi. U cant find a single quote from Jaya in support of LTTE.Actually she said during the war that casualties are natural during war referring to the LTTE decimation at the hands of Srl Army(cant find that quote unfortunately). Even if Jayalalitha is against the LTTE, there are enough parties and people in Tamil Nadu who have supported LTTE, even after what happened in 1991. That is shameful.

I am under no illusion that Congress has not made a host of majorly screwed up decisions and continues to do so. Don't take me for a Congress supporter - I am an equal opportunity hater of all political parties in India. It's only individual leaders regardless of their party affiliation who have made a positive contribution to Indian polity.

If you are getting too much of excited by that, I am sure of you getting pissed. Everyone knows this is just a stunt by the Central Govt. But still I am happier if the protests, the national media discussion and the government action is centered on Fishermen issue rather over the demand for the political split of Sri Lanka or even India. (as thats what the so called 'aggressive' protesters quote)

Yet we haven't seen even a whisper of a protest from the central govt.They are if (if it actually happens) because they cross the border. And by crossing the border what they do? plunder the catch that is lawfully their Sri lankan Tamil brothers' (and sisters). When that happens, nothing whispered about Tamil brotherhood or some ****, because it involves money. Pure doublestandards. And I don't think Indian Navy treats SL fishermen (mostly Tamils) who cross the border well too.

The fishermen accuse that the organised South Indian fishing trawlers invade Sri Lankan waters for poaching causing conflict with the Sri Lankan fishermen and Sri Lanka Navy. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in India Prasad Kariyawasam in October this year said during the fishing season, a large number of boats from Tamil Nadu cross the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fish in Sri Lankan waters. “The Sri Lankan Tamil fishermen of the Northern Province, who are just resuming their livelihood of fishing after the conclusion of the conflict, are very concerned as their waters are being over-fished and poached by Tamil Nadu fishermen. Our fishermen, therefore, urge the Sri Lankan Navy and the political parties concerned to protect them,†he said.
