The costs associated with not doing so are monstrous. doubt if that would have ever worked. We can't even follow normal traffic regulations and you want them to control their sensual pleasure. The best way to do this is by educating the masses especially in poor rural areas. This is not a quick and easy solution. Unfortunately, everyone wants a quick and easy fix and that won't last long.

Why's that so, for the greater good ? Isn't that the intention behind the suggestion ? Besides, in nations with better governance & HDI (some would say more civilized nations), the govt steps in when the parents are found wanting in terms of child care and punishes them for negligence. You must really enjoy the freedom of our countrymen not being able to feed/support their children and millions dying due to lack of nutrition or medical attention. I guess that presents a beautiful picture to some of us.

There companies and people desperately need young people to work and take care for them , particularly in low paying jobs. China allowed opened its economy and its large population became a boon for it. Now China too will face crunch of young people which will work at low cost in future. because of 1 child policy.India can benefit with large young population with right policies
