There is a software called senuti which I downloaded in the past to back up all my Itunes and IPOD music collection on a hard drive....Had around 60 GB worth of Audio files.

Labor is very expensive in the US. I called up a few places and they were quoting $250-300+. Also' date=' there is no guarantee of recovery because it's smashed up really bad - it wasn't a fall from a desk or bed,[b'] it went down an entire flight of hardwood stairs.
Ouch! You got your laptop smashed and you are here worried about your songs?

I am definitely going the Cloud way of auto backup after this mishap. Not going to be lazy to not backup anymore.

The laptop was a 7 year old Macbook which I was looking to replace anyway, so not really bothered about that.

10 daalar ki ek CD aati hai. :((
If you really want the files stored on your machine then get someone in India to go to the local market and find a thela selling DVDs and CDs, ask them to pick up 10 CDs of old songs and you will have 1000s of songs for almost no cost. Get the CDs shipped and enjoy

I went to Bareilly to visit my sister a few years back and they were literally selling MP3 CD's for like 15-20 Rs and they had an incredible collection...if dont want to spend $$$$'s another option next time you visit India to keep you safe from FBI :two_thumbs_up:

on the topic of backup I was just checking prices HDD and they've fallen quite a bit. Last year I bought a 1TB HDD for 5000 and now a 2TB HDD is available on spapdeal for around 5500.

Yeah' date=' getting those CDs from India is a good option. Not sure how good their quality is, but given that they are so cheap will give it a try.[/quote'] Quality is as good/bad as you would find online. Some CDs might not work for more than a few days so just copy as soon as you get the CD. Also some CDs might have different songs than what the label says so be prepared for that :)

LeT - Please buy an external HD for important data. If you have multiple Apple devices at home, consider buying Time Capsule ; 2TB - 299 USD, 3TB - 399 USD. https://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/
++ I've transferred a large sum of movies and plays on my ext. disk after I had an issue with my HDD.

Mac backups are such a breeze, I wonder why I never did till recently when I had to take my Mac to the apple store and they recommended I do a backup before they fix it.
