I dont even know how a test championship would be feasible. You see mostly empty stands for test matches in most countries in the world and boards are cutting down on test matches in a series. Considering how long a test championship would last, how are the boards going to make it work without sustaining big losses ? As for CT, I think this tournament could still work as long as its kept short like the current tournament.

Agree with Naresh on the test championship. mostly it will be 4 top icc ranked teams with semis and finals. Which will need probably about 2-3 weeks to compile.If india for some reason is not in the top 4 of that then IMO its going badly flop.

a test championship tie b/w 2 sides should have 2 legs home and away i.e 1 test each in both the countries..if both win each of the leg,the winner should be the one who won more handsomely..the final should be a one off test match at the neutral venue via a lottery or a bid done much b4 the commencement of the chamionship

I cant imagine general public enthusiasm for a test championship, it would be too long winded and slower paced for the non cricketing fans. Champions Trophy has no prestige but as mentioned cos we are doing well its easy to like! I also like the fact that it only includes the main 8 teams, so you dont have time wasting matches v Bang/Ireland. I would rather have this than a test format

Good event,like UEFA euro in football, but world cup is the best. I guess with world t20 and world cup, there was no room for such an event.

The 2013 Champions Trophy has been deemed such a success that it appears highly likely that the competition will be repeated. The ICC had originally decided to replace the competition with a Test Championship and the 2013 tournament would be the last one. But after excellent crowds and interest from around the world, the ICC are reconsidering that decision and will discuss their options at their annual conference, from June 25-29 in London. The ICC remain keen to promote Test cricket and feel a Test Championship would complement the World T20 and the World Cup and ensure there was a high-profile competition for each of the three formats of the game. While continuing the Champions Trophy would mean there were two global 50-over events, it is now thought there is sufficient difference between the Champions Trophy and the World Cup and sufficient interest from broadcasters for both to survive.

must say that this year's tournament has been surprisingly good - but it could have been a LOT better if the ICC had used some common sense to schedule it in better weather. Hope they decide to scrap some of the meaningless ODI series' instead of this tournament.

That's not in ICC hands, individual boards won't agree to scrap bilateral series.

It is a championship because an FTP will be formed over 4 years and the final is played between the top 2 teams. Currently, the top 4 teams are selected and there would be a SF and Final. The individual boards have already agreed - it was the broadcasters deal (particularly from the ECB) which delayed it.

They should let it go imo. Besides India making the final, this year has been good because it has been in England where you get decent support for pretty much every team. A tournament in India, for example, would be played out in front of empty stands.

:hysterical: Are you serious ? There were mostly empty stands even when England was playing. The only matches which had decent crowds were matches featuring India, Pak and SL because of the expatriates. I also have to say, the atmosphere for cricket in England is poor. Its alright for test matches but very boring for ODIs and T20s.

Agree. Only Indian matches will be sold out , matches played between neutral teams are always played against mostly empty stands even during WC 11. Even the Champions league T20 , neutral teams attract very few people even if ticket prices are low.

One reason may be capacity of stadiums are less compared to India [20 to 25k?]

Cricinfo reports there is a good chance of CT being continued after its success in this edition.This is good news for cricket fans.:agree: To find space in the busy international schedule for CT,all they have to do is minimize the pointless bilateral series' such as the numerous SL-Ind matches we have every other week.I mean, aren't we all sick of seeing Rohit Sharma edging to Sanga or Dilshan mauling Ishant :roti:
