Baseball have grown tremendously in australia with a lot of aussies playing in the MLB.Recently the texas rangers signed a 16- year old kid for almost $500,000.

not really no. Australia as a country has been a big decline in sports in general. From rugby union to rugby league

I dont think people realize just how rich australia has become in the past decade as a result of mineral wealth. as a result me thinks the population have become more lazy

From what I've ready most the youngsters end up in the work force after high school because mining jobs pay a pretty penny. So who would bother with risking time an effort in a non guaranteed profession like pro sports (let alone amateur sports).

Teams will start putting in conditions that players refrain from certain "offseason" activities in an effort to protect their investment.

New generation, different priorities. And Mining Industry has picked up (due to Chinese demand) only in the last couple of decades.

The mining industry is going to pick up even more now because in addition to China there will be big demand from India now (which is 12-15 years behind the Chinese). The Uranium deal recently is already a beginning.

It will be like the American model of basketball/baseball.
