UPA not first to take ordinance route to overturn SC' date= NDA did it in 2002 Read more at: http://www.firstpost.com/politics/upa-not-first-to-take-ordinance-route-to-overturn-sc-nda-did-it-in-2002-1133093.html?utm_source=ref_article We will only see "tweets", "media bytes" from the BJP but when push comes to shove (read RTI amendments, food security bill, lokpal bill etc.) you will all the brothers up in arms against each others. Oh and btw - lets see BJP does to act against such an ordinance when it comes to power. Here's my bet - they will let it be as it is.
You unnecessarily brought BJP into this. Congress shamelessly protecting convicted criminals even by manipulating parliament and overruling SC. Instead of criticizing that, you would wait to see what BJP will do.

I was merely pointing out to the fact that all major political parties are in arms with this rule. And YES - this is shameful by the Congress to even allow a thought of ordinance on this in the first place.

The reason he singled out Congress is because Congress is ruling us. They are the one who can draft a bill and get it cleared. Rest all parties BJP, Left, TMC are opposition parties. When BJP will come to power, we will scrutiny each and every steps of their also. But here it has become a kind of fashion, never talk about failure of ruling gov, sitting PM alone in any thread somehow bring BJP or Modi in the reply which intentionally or non intentionally dilutes the criticism against my government and my PM.

First, this was an ordinance and not a bill. Second, to clear a bill there is a majority requirement and Congress by itself can't give that majority. Third, I was merely pointing out that other parties (and I did not single out BJP but bhakts got themselves twisted just with the mere presence of the name) are as much in sync with this as the ruling government. It is important to see what the issue is rather than going on with the typical baaja. And it has also become a fashion to blame the issues in our society on one single entity when the so called "different" alternatives are exactly in the same boat.

Not true in this case. CPI has opposed the move. BJP did and few other parties.

I am skeptical - opposition words in the media and opposition in principle is very different. In any case, time will tell.

SOB - it looks like Congress themselves are not clear on this. Milind Deora and Digvijay Singh apparently have opposed the ordinance.

milinddeora: Legalities aside allowing convicted MPs/MLAs 2 retain seats in the midst of an appeal can endanger already eroding public faith in democracy
Epic lallu giri by royal family!

Congress has a long history with this kind of crap like the Emergency and Shah Bano. Fortunately, the current and foreseeable political scenario in India means that it's not very easy to get away with this kind of stuff like it was 25 years ago. It will be interesting if the Supreme Court knocks the ordinance and later the bill down as unconstitutional - will the political parties then pass a constitutional amendment with two thirds majority?

Pappu called the cabinet approved ordinance as "nonsense" and that it should be "torn apart" and "thrown in the dustbin". This is the height of insult heaped on Manmohan Singh by the mafia. Any self respecting PM will immediately resign. But not this man, he will swallow even this insult. He is a doormat. Yes, our Prime Minister is a doormat.
