grounds in england are small. but for this and even when india come to visit next year there probably will be a demand for 1 million odd tickets. So the demand for tickets has exceeded the supply quite a bit for this year and the next. (when india visit)

How much are the ticket prices per day? Even in India, the tests are generally sold out, just that 75% of the tickets are given as freebie passes to bureaucrats, policemen, netas and the local admin guys none of whom bother to turn up.

£80 for days 1-2-3. 4 and 5 are cheaper. 5 especially. Thats the averagish price. Prices in London are a lot more than up north. The ECB makes lots of money from the Ashes primarily from ticket sales. When it comes to india they make money from ticket sales and from big tv audience. If it was upto the ECB Australia and India would tour for the english summer every alternative year. With South africa touring in May. There are just no margins for England when they play Pakistan or South africa in June/July.

Thanks. A quick calculation suggests 80*20000*5=8 million per test, for 5 Ashes tests, 40+ million pounds just from ticket sales!! Amazing

I think the ECB and the counties make about 50 million pounds from ticket sales (10 million extra cause executive boxes cost a lot more) , however hiring stewards and other staff specifically for the event probably costs about £20-£25 million. For eg you need chefs for the executive box. So consider that the grounds and ECB make about £25 million profit from ticket sales through the ashes season.

Plethora of Ashes? I think the number is still the same - just the scheduling has changed owing to the 2015 ODI WC in Australia.

Lots of Aussie "Fanatics" go to the cricket overseas - you would have seen them in the crowd at Trent Bridge. Same guys who go watch Orstraya and Li'l Lleyton at Davis Cup ties. They give the country a bad name imo. There is another Ashes series in England after the World Cup (July-August 2015), so that's where the comment about plethora of Ashes series comes from.
