Old guy Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Congrats England, well played!!! :hatsoff: What a fantastic Test and I hope rest of the series pans out in the same vein though I would prefer umpires to up their game a bit and DRS applied a bit more consistently. yeah apart from umpiring it was terrific test,, in the end i dont think those decision would have changed the result.. people should quickly move on and if australia are really good enough then there is nothing stopping them from bouncing back in this long 5 match series

England are the better side but they were brought to the verge of losing this if not for DRS

In a tight contest a decision can change the outcome and hopefully DRS would be applied more consistently in the future. Anyway it's water under the bridge and Aussies will need to regroup and come back strong.

Old guy Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 if its always about the good team winning, when even play a game. England are the better side but they were brought to the verge of losing this if not for DRS i meant the team which played better this test match won bell was best batsman and anderson was by far the best bowler .. its not that england were playing totally bad cricket and umpires own them match .. few close decisions went with engkand but whose fault is it ? only broad incident is making me angry even there umpire was to blame :winky:
Ultimate_Game Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 but these things happened even before drs..no? and what about trott he could have gone on and scored runs just like first inning all i am saying is lets not forget good performances and how good this test was jsut bcos of few mistakes by umpires In pre-DRS days, umpiring errors were part of the game, but not anymore. DRS were brought in to fix the very problem, i.e. umpiring errors. If we still get the same outcome and inconsistency, why even go with the system? I think ICC will need to take a closer look at DRS implementation and change a few things so that DRS can be applied consistently. A few changes I can suggest from my side would be... 1. Give more than 2 reviews per innings in Tests, or take the reviews outside players' hands and let umpires use the technology as they deem fit. At the end of the match umpire's performance will be monitored and it will be in umpires' best interests to use DRS to get the right decisions. 2. Take out snicko, hot spot and other gizmos. Rely on replays and hawk-eye for coming up with the decision as it should be enough to rule out howlers and the same system can be used irrespective of the series or teams playing. Currently the DRS system varies depending on who's playing. 3. Have a set rule for LBWs. You can't go with "umpire's call" and have two different calls for a similar event. If the ball is glancing the stumps, give the benefit of doubt to batsman. This way you have the same result no matter what the umpire's original call was. It should be all about consistency but the current rules don't allow the same.

Mark Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 for racism, pakism, strange looks at accents, poaching players from other countries and having cheats as your cricketing ambassadors. sorry dont get me going too much. cant forgive you for that. England suck. How ironic that you criticise racism.
vayuu1 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Well the thing is that they bragg and whine a lot, especially against Asian teams, remember ,during India's last tour of England ,how their media ,their ex players heck even their team reacted,I mean dhoni was the sheepish dog,Indian fans getting nackered,we had lot of donkeys, the daddy hundreds, the mommy balls ,popgun attack, teletubbies, donkeys ,knocked of the perch,go home ,knocked of the perch ,we want to be man u of cricket and what not?
G_B_ Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 @vayuu and you think they dont have a go at their own team? Today in the papers Finn is being described as Finn Flop. (after flip flop a type of slipper). Through the 90s the England papers were deeply critical of their own team. Its just their nature. They will savage anybody especially England. the knives were already being sharpened for an England series loss v NZ before Prior managed to save them. Its certainly not as if their players get a free pass and they savage everybody else. They are a bit like South Park the animated series. An equal opportunities offender. Quite frankly they are no different from the Australian media. Your telling me people lile Malcolm Conn in the Aussie media were waxing lyrical when we were losing 4-0? A lot of people forget the types of headlines coming out of Australia. The only difference is that the time difference probably made that series easier to digest for most in india. @slickr i have no issues for you supporting them. But there is a big difference between supporting and being down right abusive to England. Look at the response of Harkarjetgaye. It encapsulated the type of support i mean. For example i support Juventus. I dont have any real connection to them. Just like their brand of football. When Juve lose to neither Milan clubs in a derby I am like "well that was a bad result". I dont go mouthing abuse at Milan.
bulbul Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 @ G_B no need to give explanations , no one will listen :winky:

Also your description of England in 90ss is wrong. they took a go at others / rules even then. sorry - no goodies to cheaters. they have hurt the game. live with it
Haarkarjeetgaye Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 How ironic that you criticise racism. I use it as a reason not to see England doing good. simple. and if they cheat, you know what they get

Also your description of England in 90ss is wrong. they took a go at others / rules even then. sorry - no goodies to cheaters. they have hurt the game. live with it So where did England cheat in this? Gamesmanship yes and i do think Broad is a ****. But what cheating are you talking about? How are England to blame if a neutral umpire gives decisions in their favour? Are you implying that England bribed the umpires? and no England in the 90s were so abysmally poor that the press concentrated their entire fury on their **** team. The British media is a lot of things. But it will be critical of anybody and anything. Even England. Remember the quote "cant bat, cant bowl , cant field" that was directed by the England media towards their team. In the recent champions trophy final defeat they showered praise on India and many in clear terms said England were chokers. You would have a point if England media were only critical and never praised India on the cricketing field. In the champions trophy concluded there has been nothing but praise for India. Michael Vaughan Especially has praised India and MSD a lot.
SLICKR392 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Yes, and Vaughan praised us, accused Laxman of cheating and Naseer called us donkeys couple of years back but NO, we should be nice to them.

[/quote'] and what did Malcolm conn do in the aussie media? Some of his articles were horrendous during the 2008 series. does not stop you from supporting australia. infact i have never seen him or many aussie media people like Lalor Craddick etc ever say a good word about India. Atleast Vaughan acknowledges good cricket.

There have been plenty between us and Aussies but they are not fake as some of the English players and pundits. I am a big fan of the English football team, so I believe my hate hasn't got much to do with the country but its cricket team, which honestly, I abhor.

Any poster should be free to support any team they want. you know I like you as a poster :two_thumbs_up: I have no issues with you supporting Aus. They are the underdogs and you dont like aspects of the english media. Thats fair enough. My problem is with those who abuse england with some really crass comments. Thats just uncalled for. Supporting Aus does not mean abusing england. Or vice versa.
