Why is Manish Pandey not in contention ?

I wonder why manish pandey is not considered in the A team, forget the A Team his name is nowhere close to any of the performance, emerging bla bla bla teams . He is definately not a good limited over player but by his records he is a damn good First class player who has a good record. With an average of 51+ with 3K runs @ strike rate of 68+ is pretty damn good!! Remember him as a savior to Kohli's team before they won the world cup, he played crucial knocks in Sri Lanka , South Africa, apart from his Single Handed heroics in the first class games for Karnataka and his terrific fielding. Thoughts!!

how many people are you going to pick? Rahane has an average of 60 at first class and has won Mumbai ranji championships with crucial knocks. Pujara averages 60 plus Tiwary averages 59 odd. I think to really stand out you need to alteast have an average of 55 with the run inflation in ranji cricket. For test cricket atleast. We made huge errors with yuvi and ranina. they were averaging in the 40s in ranji cricket and were picked for tests.

Well atleast his name should be in the reckoning, picking a player is another thing, by the looks of it, he is nowhere near the selector's eyes. To me he has had some decent seasons go by without being in contention for the First Class matches with international teams. I feel he needs to get the exposure, he is playing T20 and is losing all his credentials as a First Class player.

But by this logic selecting dhawan was a big mistake because he averages 47

Rahane, Pujara have touched Indian team, Tiwary, Rohit are waiting in the wings for the middle order to free up. Though Manish Pandey is a middle order batsman, given a choice i would say i would want to give him a go before Tiwary. Pandey has something about him in the longer version of the game. He scores big, has good conversion rate and a pretty good strike rate.

Pandey was a top player for Karnataka in last few seasons , played some amazing innings. The 2010 Ranji final [spoiled by pathetic umpires] was highlight of his career. Also hit a century in IPL for RCB.

Absolutely! Though the IPL i would say was a one time wonder, I'm debating on the Longer Version of the game where he has excelled in the domestic season, and all his chances have come in the limited overs. I remember he was part of some Emerging Tournament squads in 2011 & 2010 where mostly he played T20 matches and some 3 day matches, he had a nice game http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/345/345410.html. The other international experience he got was against the visiting south african XI http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/279/279629.html. That's pretty much it.

Opening is a specialist's position, at least in tests. I don't think there are any openers averaging 50 in first class cricket.

He did get oicked for India A but couldn't do well. But at 24, he still has age on his side. Like Rayudu and even Dhawan, consistent domestic performances will get rewarded sooner or later. Havea good FC season, top it up with som runs in IPL and he will be back in contention.

Is he a cowlasher or Test cricket capable batsman? Lets firs clarify that
if you have not watched him bat , a bit of a KP kind of batsmen .very Unconventional , does slog occasionally but alos can play some classy shots like KP . atm though there are quite a few bats who I would pick ahead of him .
