very good to see that new players r tried instead of those regular failures
Good call on Zol and Chand. I personally feel these two will learn faster at international stage.

Hope he gets his big break while still in peak form. We've lost some potentially good players because they didn't get into the final international XI during their peak. Badrinath and Rahane come to mind.

Our last India A match vs NZ A last year http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/569306.html The three centurions from the match - Mukund, Mandeep and Menaria not even in India B FC squad. Players from that A squad not in any of present squads- Mukund, Anustup Mazumdar, Surya Yadav, Naman Ojha, Rituraj Singh, Akshay Darekar
Out of these few are to plat the U-23 ACC Emerging Players tournament: http://goo.gl/SyTXo3 Mumbai's Surya Kumar Yadav to lead India U-23 squad U-23 squad: Surya Kumar Yadav (captain), K.L. Rahul (vice-captain), Kaustubh Pawar, Ankit Bawane, Unmukt Chand, Ashok Menaria, Manpreet Juneja, Smit Patel, Prashant Chopra, Jasprit Bumrah, Sandeep Warrier, Harshal Patel, Akshar Patel, Sandeep Sharma, B Aparajith.

Having written that post looked at stats for last domestic season. All those dropped Mukund, Mandeep, Menaria, Anustup, Darekar, Surya, Rituraj have had very poor domestic season. So in a way justified. But Mukund being totally ignored is surprising. With some technical adjustments, he could really click at the international level. Showed enough guts in the chances he got.
Indeed...
Seems like Mukund has been forgotten about despite being A team captain not long ago. I know he had an average domestic season but he has showed enough grit in test cricket to be B team opener at least.

Biggest gripe for me is still the Ltd overs A team touring SA. The selectors have got it right here by selecting distinct ltd overs specialists. Same thing should have been done there. Uthappa, Wagh, Jadhav and Mandeep should have been in SA instead of Dhawan, Rohit, Raina and Unadkat

I get your point but he Will Play for India A Before he Plays for Mahrastra
Munaf Patel played for India A without playing any FC matches in 2003 against touring NZ side.

And we all know where Munaf is right now. we should let players come though the ranks, building them block by block, even if they are extra-ordinary. Otherwise with with big jumps in career, they might lose the way. We saw that with Unmukt--had a pretty ordinary FC season last year. Why can't we choose Jol after he has played one FC season? Is BCCI not confident enough of organising more A tours or what?

It is just India A and it has nothing to do with what Munaf turned out later. He played only for India A not India. India A in itself is first class. It is not like Zol will be selected for Indian team straightaway. Munaf played a lot of FC cricket after that and was only selected for India in 2006 after he had enough FC experience and was doing well and even in that match he was our most successful pacer. A 17-year-old RP Singh and 20-year-old Sreesanth also played that match. Munaf's failure has more to do with his own mental fragility and wrong advice. There is no other Indian pacer who started as good as him in test cricket but fell away once he slowed his pace down to prolong his career as his USP was pace.

Talking about selectors' mentality and we choose India A players in the hope of grooming them so that they get prepared to play for the Indian team. Choosing a player who hasn't played even one FC match is not the best way of grooming, is my point. Any reward should come the hard way so that young players learn how difficult it is to get into Indian team.

Now from the above lists Openers - Dhawan, Vijay, Jiwanjot, Chand, Rohit and Uthappa MO batsmen - Pujara, Sachin, Kohli, Raina, Rahane Rayudu, ZOl, Juneja, Jagdish, Jadhav, Sachin Baby, Mandeep and Menaria Keepers- Dhoni, DK, Saha, Gautam, Samson & Tare All rounders - Binny, Jalaj Spinners- Jadeja, Mishra, Ashwin, Rasool, Nadeem, Ladda, Dhruv, Rahul Sharma Pacers - Bhuvi, Umesh, Ishant, VK, Shami, Unadkat, Ishwar, Sid Kaul, Dhawal, Imtiaz, Aniket, Mohanty, Sandeep Those not in any squad but int'l players- Gambhir, Sehwag, Sachin, Yuvraj, Tiway, Parthiv, Bhajji, Zaheer, Praveen , Munaf, RP , Mithoon, Varun Aaron
Apart from our fast bowling pool we are well stocked in very other department Bhuvi, Umesh are the two shinning light in our pace department Zaheer is old, Aaron is injury prone, Ishant has failed to live up to his early promise, Mohit/Undakat have both looked good but neither are great talents, Vinay/Shami have failed to live up to the hype and the rest are untested

agreed apart from one or two exclusions, selectors have been pretty good

Pankaj Singh has made some enemies. Other than that I'm fine with it. Would be great if it is broadcasted just to see Chand/Zol bat together. Hopefully, Sandeep Sharma comes good with a follow up showing in Ranji; could use another swing bowler in England next year. We have a got the makings of a dynamite team not just for the '15 WC but the '19 WC as well.

This is actually not an India A team. India A team will be in South Africa. It is an India B team and he is selected base on his performance in age group cricket.
